Advanced ED Technician I | BLS Certified

Join a dedicated healthcare team in the heart of the Midwest region, providing essential support in emergency care. This full-time, night shift role offers the opportunity to engage in both direct and indirect patient care activities under the guidance of emergency services leadership.

General Summary

As an Emergency Department Technician Level 1, you will perform a variety of patient care tasks aimed at improving outcomes and enhancing safety. Your responsibilities will include vital signs monitoring, 12-lead EKGs, specimen collection, point-of-care testing such as glucometer use, and assisting with activities of daily living including dressing, bathing, grooming, hygiene, toileting, feeding, and mobility support.

Additional duties involve splinting, crutch training, application and removal of backboards, cervical collars, and KED devices, simple wound care, and assisting with medical exams and procedures. You will also monitor physical restraints and support patient transportation within and outside the department.

In some cases, you may serve as the Lead Technician, facilitating communication, problem-solving, multitasking, and providing respectful direction to the team. Independence, accountability, organization, and the ability to perform well under pressure are key traits for success in this role.

Communication and Documentation

Effective communication with patients, visitors, and staff is essential, including the use of de-escalation techniques and sharing relevant patient status updates with healthcare team members. You will professionally greet and guide patients and visitors, ensuring smooth flow within the department.

Accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record is required, along with participation in ongoing education, competency testing, quality audits, and council activities. Adherence to infection prevention, hand hygiene, and safe handling protocols is expected.

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Experience

• One year of direct patient caregiving experience preferred.

Requirements

• Certification as PCA or CNA preferred.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Class E driving license within 90 days of hire, if applicable.
• CEVO certification completed within 90 days or as available.
• Mandt training course completion.

Mental and Physical Demands

This role requires considerable mental focus and physical activity including lifting up to 35 pounds, frequent walking, standing, turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching.

Working Conditions

Expect intermittent exposure to infectious diseases, hostile individuals, radiation, anti-neoplastic agents, and biohazardous materials. Safety protocols and protective measures are strictly followed.
