ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL - Greater New Bedford Regional Voc-Tech High School SCHOOL YEAR : 202 Days (GNBAU)
Position Purpose : Serves as the Assistant Principal for various grades (freshmen, sophomores, juniors or senior) students. This position is responsible for maintaining and improving upon the efficiency and effectiveness of all areas under his/her direction and control; performs all other related work as required.

Qualifications: Master's Degree in a relevant discipline from an accredited college or university; advanced degree preferred. Certified as a Principal/Assistant Principal by the Massachusetts DESE. Minimum of five (5) years experience in a supervisory role in a public school setting, preferred. Experience working with adolescents.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge: Knowledge of Massachusetts General Laws pertaining to education and the Students Rights and Responsibilities Document, and the High School Handbook. Knowledge of General Laws and best practices pertaining to education and discipline. Familiarity with high school admissions policies and procedures and exploratory programs. Knowledge of restorative justice principles and practices and culturally responsive interventions related to school discipline. Knowledge of effective interventions and support to students' academic achievement, personal and social development.
Skills : A commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. Have the desire and skill to work with a diverse community in a meaningful and genuine manner. Culturally Proficient leadership skills including visioning, active listening, coaching, facilitation, and use of data for decision making. Effectively communicates with staff, students, parents, and the school community. Understands and accepts a high level of accountability and responsibility. Demonstrated success in the formulation of goals and the carrying out of policies, objectives, and programs in prescribed areas. Effective communication skills working with adolescents. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Good computer skills, including Microsoft Office, etc.
Ability : Ability to recognize when and how to be directive. Ability to organize multiple tasks and conflicting time constraints. Ability to prioritize resources for continuous improvement. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with community and parent groups and with peer administrators. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.

Supervision: Supervision Scope: Performs advanced duties in accordance with protocol and standard operating procedures. This role requires extensive knowledge of departmental operations.
Supervision Received: Works under the direct supervision of the Principal or his designee.
Supervision Given: Supervises staff in the department under their control or designation. Job Environment :
Work is performed under typical office/school conditions; the environment is moderately noisy. Operates a computer, calculator, telephone, copier, facsimile machine, and other standard office equipment. Interacts with other school staff, teachers, students, parents, and vendors. Has access to school-related confidential and/or sensitive information including student records, financial records, the disclosure of which would cause a significant breach of trust and seriously damage the reputation of the school.
Errors in judgment could result in hardship to the students and the school, lower standards of service to the community, monetary loss or legal repercussions and possible negative public relations for both.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Administer discipline to all freshmen, sophomore, junior and senior students by applying rules and regulations that have been determined by the School Committee and the Administration.
2. Create a positive atmosphere of strong and supportive discipline for all sophomores,
- Know the existing laws and rules regarding discipline performance, and be aware of changes as they relate to student discipline, attendance and general conduct.
- Enforce school rules and policies for those freshman, sophomore, junior and senior students who have become a threat to the overall school community.
- Make each freshman, sophomore, junior and senior student aware of school policy as it relates to improper
- Meet with all freshmen, sophomore, junior and senior students referred to the Assistant Principal.
- Contact parents immediately to make them aware of discipline problems.
- Arrange for and meet with the parents of students having discipline or adjustment problems during or beyond the school day.
- Work closely with guidance counselors, student adjustment counselors and other staff in the identification and counseling of students with potential problems. Work closely with the Ex. Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion with regard to investigations into Title IX complaints.
- Communicate information decisions and outcomes of individual cases to the Administration, teachers, counselors and staff.
- Serve as a liaison between the school and parents, the courts, community agencies, school programs, police authorities and coordinate information and action.
- Supervise the in-house suspension room, administrative detention, parking permits to staff and students.
- Participate in the yearly review of the Student Handbook.
- Monitor and evaluate freshmen, sophomore, junior, and senior students' attendance problems and take appropriate action.
- Participate in staff and faculty meetings.
- Work closely with the other Assistant Principals on enforcing school rules and policies.
- Monitor and evaluate the in-house security personnel.
- Coordinate the in-house security with the outside security.
- Monitor and work closely with the bus companies in discipline and other school problems.
- Work closely with the Principal on staff issues.
- Participate in professional growth through an on-going program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning.
- Participate in an evaluation process.
- Perform such other related duties as may be required.
