Sr. Journeyman Electrician (with Civil/Trenching Experience)

Location: Richmond, VA and surrounding areas

Job Type: Full-Time

Reports To: Project Manager / Electrical Superintendent

Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled, licensed Journeyman Electrician who brings a unique blend of traditional electrical expertise and civil/trenching experience. In this role, you won't just be pulling wire and terminating panels; you will play a critical role in our underground infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate understands how to safely coordinate, excavate, layout, and install underground conduit runs, duct banks, and grounding systems across commercial, industrial, or municipal sites in the Greater Richmond area.

Key Responsibilities

• Electrical Installation: Layout, assemble, install, and test electrical wiring, fixtures, control devices, and conduits (PVC, EMT, Rigid) adhering to the National Electrical Code (NEC) and local Richmond codes.

• Civil & Underground Coordination: Oversee and assist with trenching, excavating, and backfilling operations for underground electrical layouts.

• Duct Banks & Grounding: Lead the installation of underground duct banks, vaults, handholes, and exterior grounding grids.

• Equipment & Safety: Safely operate or work closely with operators of trenchers, mini-excavators, and skid steers. Ensure strict adherence to OSHA regulations, particularly regarding trench shoring and excavation safety.

• Blueprint Reading: Read and interpret both electrical schematics and civil/site grading plans to accurately plot underground paths and avoid existing utilities.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Licensure: Valid Journeyman Electrician license issued by the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR).

• Experience:

  • Minimum of 4 to 5 years of commercial or industrial electrical experience.

  • Proven experience working on civil electrical projects, specifically involving trenching, site utilities, or underground power distribution.

• Technical Skills: Proficient in bending large-diameter conduit (benders and hydraulic) and managing heavy wire pulls.

• Certifications: OSHA 10 required (OSHA 30 preferred). A valid driver’s license with a clean driving record is mandatory.

• Physical Requirements: Ability to work outdoors in variable Virginia weather conditions, stand for long periods, and lift up to 50 lbs regularly.
