IT Student Assistant

Description Location : The Information School, UW Position Title : IT Help Desk Student Assistant Anticipated Start Date : 10/19/2026 End Date : 6/15/2027 Approximate number of hours : 15-19.5 hours/week The University of Washington Information School is seeking an enthusiastic undergraduate student to join our IT Help Desk team. This role provides a fantastic opportunity to gain hands‑on, practical experience with tools such as ITSM (ticketing) systems, Client deployment, Microsoft SharePoint, and enhance your troubleshooting, scripting, and other IT‑related abilities. Responsibilities will include the following duties: Provide friendly, timely technical assistance to iSchool students, faculty, and staff. Troubleshoot common issues involving accounts, Windows and Mac computers, software, printers, network access, and other UW and iSchool technologies. Create, update, and document support requests in UW Connect. Manage equipment checkouts and returns, including imaging, organizing, and tracking equipment. Install, configure, update, and maintain computers and related equipment. Create and maintain technical documentation in SharePoint and WordPress. Escalate issues appropriately and communicate their status to users and other IT staff. Assist with IT projects based on interest, experience, and team needs. Projects may involve scripting, coding, data management, documentation, or process improvement. Develop or maintain basic automation using technologies such as Python or PowerShell, with guidance from IT staff. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Minimum Requirements: Currently enrolled Undergraduate student at the University of Washington. Junior or senior standing by the position’s start date. Basic hardware, networking, printing, and computer troubleshooting knowledge. Experience using both Windows and macOS. Experience using Microsoft 365 applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams. Completion of at least one coding-focused course, such as INFO 330, INFO 340, or equivalent coursework or experience. A demonstrated interest in technology and helping others. Strong customer‑service and interpersonal skills. Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills. Good written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently and as a collaborative team member. Able to manage competing priorities and stay organized. Ability to move and lift equipment weighing up to 25 pounds. Desired Qualifications: Experience providing customer service or technical support in a job, volunteer position, student organization, or similar setting. Experience with Python, PowerShell, JavaScript, or Node.js. Experience writing instructions or other technical documentation. Work-study eligible.
