Media Assistant - Content Creator - PARCS

The Parks, Arts, Recreation, and Community Services (PARCS) Department is seeking a creative and detail-oriented Media Assistant–Content Creator to support the department’s marketing and digital content efforts. This position will assist with social media content creation, filming and video editing, scriptwriting, creative concept support, photography, and event coverage. The role will help create engaging content that highlights PARCS programs, events, facilities, projects, and initiatives while maintaining a consistent brand voice across digital platforms. General Summary: Under general supervision, provide communication and marketing support to the City of Lancaster by increasing City visibility through social media. Supervisory Responsibilities: None Social Media Strategy: Assist with the development and implementation of social media strategies that align with goals, initiatives, and audiences. Content Creation: Assist with creating and curating engaging content for social media platforms, including posts, videos, stories, photos, and other multimedia formats. Video Production & Editing: Assist with filming and editing social-first video content, including short-form videos, event recaps, interviews, promotional content, and department updates. Scriptwriting & Concept Development: Assist with developing creative concepts, scripts, hooks, shot lists, and other pre-production materials for social media and video content, including the biweekly update video. Event & Field Coverage: Support content coverage at PARCS events, programs, facilities, projects, and community activities by capturing photo and video content, including occasional evening and weekend assignments. Copywriting: Draft copy for social media posts, video scripts, website content, event promotions, and other digital materials while following established brand voice and messaging. Campaign Analysis: Assist with monitoring and reporting social media performance and identifying content trends and opportunities to improve engagement. Audience Engagement: Assist with day-to-day social media engagement and community interaction across department platforms. Collaboration: Support PARCS staff in gathering information, coordinating content needs, and completing communications projects. Trend Monitoring: Stay up to date with social media trends, platform features, and content creation best practices, and identify opportunities for use in department content. Content Calendar Management : Assist with maintaining and updating the content calendar to support timely publication across platforms. This position is considered (non-exempt or exempt) Minimum Qualifications: Experience: 2 years of experience in social media, content creation, marketing, communications, or a related field. Social Media Knowledge: Working knowledge of social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, and YouTube, and familiarity with social media best practices. Content Creation: Experience creating social media content, including writing, photography, videography, video editing, and basic graphic design. Photography & Videography: Experience capturing photo and video content using smartphones, DSLR/mirrorless cameras, and basic production equipment. Video Editing: Experience editing social-first video content using CapCut, Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or similar video editing software. Creative Storytelling: Ability to assist with developing concepts, scripts, hooks, shot lists, and visual storytelling for social media and video content. Analytics: Familiarity with social media analytics and the ability to identify basic performance trends and insights. Time Management : Excellent multitasking and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines. Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively across teams. Technical Skills: Experience with content creation and social media tools, including Later, CapCut, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, Meta Business Suite, and similar platforms. Creativity & Problem-Solving: Ability to think creatively, solve problems, and adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment. Education and Experience: Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for acceptable job performance Current enrollment in or recent completion of a college or university program in Communications, Marketing, Digital Media, Film/Video Production, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field is desirable.
