QA/QC Specialist – Mechanical Systems (HVAC & Piping)This role leads project-wide quality assurance and quality control efforts for mechanical systems on a large-scale construction project. The QA/QC Specialist develops and manages mechanical quality programs, reviews inspection and test plans, oversees commissioning-related quality requirements, and ensures all installations meet design, owner, contract, and manufacturer standards. The position serves as the primary mechanical quality resource for field supervision and project management teams, driving consistent, compliant, and well-documented installation quality from construction through turnover.ResponsibilitiesDevelop and implement project-specific mechanical quality control programs for HVAC, chilled water, condenser water, fuel oil, plumbing, and piping systems.Lead quality planning efforts for mechanical scopes to ensure alignment with project requirements, contract documents, and manufacturer standards.Serve as the primary mechanical quality resource for field supervision and project management teams, providing guidance and support on quality-related matters.Review inspection and test plans (ITPs) to ensure they are complete, accurate, and aligned with project quality objectives.Manage project-wide quality programs and track quality documentation to maintain consistent standards across all mechanical work.Ensure subcontractors and trade partners meet all project specifications, quality standards, and approved procedures.Oversee commissioning-related quality requirements for mechanical systems, ensuring all activities meet design and owner expectations.Perform and document inspections of mechanical installations throughout construction, including equipment placement, piping installation, supports, seismic bracing, insulation, and system components.Verify that mechanical installations comply with approved drawings, specifications, and design intent.Coordinate and conduct first-work inspections and ongoing quality audits to identify and address quality issues early.Identify installation deficiencies, communicate findings to field teams, and work collaboratively to develop and implement corrective actions.Manage quality records, inspection reports, and testing documentation to ensure accurate, complete, and organized project files.Review and maintain Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), ensuring they reflect current project conditions and requirements.Track and maintain certificates of compliance, material certifications, calibration records, and manufacturer documentation.Ensure accurate and complete turnover documentation is developed and maintained throughout the construction process.Coordinate and witness pressure testing, flushing, cleaning, and system startup activities for mechanical systems.Validate completion of hydrostatic testing, leak testing, water treatment, and mechanical system commissioning requirements.Review startup reports, testing, adjusting and balancing (TAB) reports, vendor documentation, and acceptance test results to confirm compliance.Ensure all deficiencies identified during testing and validation activities are corrected, documented, and closed out.Manage non-conformance reports (NCRs) and quality issues, ensuring timely resolution and thorough documentation.Perform root cause investigations for non-conformances and track corrective actions through closure.Lead quality-related meetings and field walks to align stakeholders on quality expectations and progress.Monitor punch list completion and verify that all quality issues are resolved prior to system turnover.Witness inspections and testing performed by subcontractors and vendors to confirm adherence to project requirements.Verify that final installations meet design criteria, owner standards, and project specifications before acceptance.Essential SkillsProven experience in quality control and quality assurance for mechanical systems in construction environments.Strong knowledge of HVAC, chilled water, condenser water, fuel oil, plumbing, and piping systems.Demonstrated ability to develop and implement project-specific mechanical quality control programs.Hands-on experience reviewing and managing Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs).Ability to perform detailed inspections of mechanical installations, including equipment placement, piping, supports, seismic bracing, insulation, and system components.Experience coordinating and witnessing mechanical system testing such as pressure testing, flushing, cleaning, hydrostatic testing, leak testing, and system startups.Proficiency in managing non-conformance reports (NCRs), including root cause analysis and corrective action tracking.Strong documentation management skills, including handling quality records, inspection reports, testing documentation, certificates of compliance, material certifications, calibration records, and manufacturer documentation.Ability to verify compliance with contract documents, project specifications, and manufacturer requirements.Effective communication skills to support and advise field supervision and project management teams on mechanical quality matters.Capability to lead quality-related meetings and field walks and to coordinate quality planning efforts with multiple stakeholders.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience working with trade partners and subcontractors on large, complex construction projects.Familiarity with commissioning processes for mechanical systems, including validation of system performance and documentation requirements.Experience reviewing startup reports, testing, adjusting and balancing (TAB) reports, vendor documentation, and acceptance test results.Strong analytical skills to identify deficiencies and develop practical corrective actions.Attention to detail and a methodical approach to quality planning, inspection, and documentation.Ability to support accurate and complete turnover documentation for mechanical systems.Comfort working as the primary quality resource for mechanical scopes within a multi-disciplinary project team.Work EnvironmentThis role is based on a large-scale data center construction project in Port Washington, Wisconsin. The project is a multi-billion-dollar development, offering exposure to a complex, high-profile environment with extensive mechanical systems, including HVAC and various piping networks. The QA/QC Specialist works primarily on-site within an active construction setting, collaborating closely with field supervision, project management, trade partners, and commissioning teams. The work involves regular site walks, field inspections, witnessing testing activities, and participating in quality and coordination meetings. The environment includes typical construction site conditions such as active equipment, in-progress installations, and evolving work areas. Standard construction-site attire and appropriate personal protective equipment are required to ensure safety during field activities.Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Milwaukee, WI.Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $38.00 - $50.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
