Job Title: Mechanical Assembler – 2nd Shift Job Description

This 2nd shift Mechanical Assembler role focuses on building solar panel power boxes and switchboards in the AC, DC, and wire departments. You work Monday through Thursday from 3:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. in a large, clean, and quiet manufacturing facility. After an initial training period on 1st shift, you join a team-oriented, non-automated assembly line, performing mechanical assembly, wiring, and wire spooling using hand and power tools.

• Assemble solar panel power boxes and switchboards in the AC/DC and wire departments on a non-automated assembly line.
• Review daily job setups, including panel boxes, switchboards, wire, and related components, and prepare them for assembly.
• Pull and spool wire according to specifications and feed wires through the back of panels.
• Read and interpret prints and basic diagrams to determine correct placement of parts within power boxes and switchboards.
• Perform mechanical assembly tasks such as screwing in screws, nuts, and bolts, and securely fastening components.
• Strip wires and attach them to metal plates and other components as part of the power box assembly process.
• Use hand tools, air power tools, and torque wrenches safely and efficiently throughout the shift.
• Work within a specific area for the full shift, such as wire spooling or mechanical assembly, while collaborating with a small team.
• Meet production expectations by assembling up to 64 panels per day once fully trained and up to speed.
• Lift and move materials and components weighing up to 40 pounds as part of normal work duties.
• Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment and adherence to facility guidelines.
• Participate in on-the-job training and cross-training to become compatible with both machinery-related tasks and power tool usage.
• Contribute to a team-oriented environment by communicating clearly and supporting team members to achieve daily production goals.

• Ability to read and interpret basic prints and assembly diagrams (if you can follow furniture-style instructions, you can learn these prints).
• Ability to accurately read a tape measure and apply measurements in an assembly environment.
• Experience using basic hand tools such as screwdrivers, wrenches, and similar tools.
• Capability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds on a regular basis.
• Comfort working with mechanical assembly tasks in a manufacturing or similar environment.
• Ability to follow detailed instructions and maintain consistent quality and productivity.
• Willingness to work 2nd shift hours, Monday through Thursday from 3:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a small team on a production line.

• Experience using a foot pedal crimper is a plus.
• Familiarity with pneumatic tools and air power tools is an advantage.
• Comfort using torque wrenches and other precision tools in assembly work.
• Basic mechanical aptitude and interest in learning more complex assembly and wiring tasks.
• Previous experience in wiring or electrical panel assembly is helpful but not required, as on-the-job training is provided.

The role is based in a large, very clean, and quiet manufacturing facility with a manual, team-based assembly line. You work primarily on 2nd shift, Monday through Thursday from 3:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m., following an initial training period on 1st shift. Teams are small, typically 4–6 people per team, with around 20 people on first shift and an additional shift currently being built up. The work involves manual labor, including lifting up to 40 pounds, wire spooling, and mechanical assembly using hand tools, air power tools, pneumatic tools, and torque wrenches. The facility uses fans for air circulation and is not temperature controlled. Dress code includes shirts with sleeves (short or long), full-length pants without holes, and steel toe boots. Safety glasses and gloves are supplied when needed. You may wear headphones with a single earbud during work, contributing to a relaxed yet safety-conscious environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Walker, MI.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
