Senior Embedded Systems Engineer

Role Description

We are hiring for a Senior Embedded Systems Engineer. You will develop firmware for our family of baby and adult sleep devices. This includes:

• Developing new features and fixing issues in our microcontroller code written with the ESP-IDF and running FreeRTOS.
• Operating at the border between hardware and software.
• Using AI fluently in day-to-day tasks.

What You’ll Do

• Within 1 month:
  • Dig into our Embedded architecture and tools.
  • Own and ship fixes and features using AI.
  • Use and understand tools for observability.
  • Build strong working relationships with peers across teams.
• Within 3 months:
  • Thoroughly understand the system architecture.
  • Learn what drives the business and prioritize accordingly.
  • Own and ship complex fixes and features.
  • Improve observability by developing dashboards and tools.
• After 6 months:
  • Lead the design and rollout of new product firmware.
  • Mentor teammates and model high-quality engineering decisions.
  • Own and drive embedded improvements.
  • Build reusable modules, scripts, and patterns.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in Embedded engineering.
• Deep expertise in C development on resource-constrained MCUs running an RTOS.
• Familiarity with Jira, Git/Github, GDB, Make/Cmake, Python, schematics, part selection, and understanding datasheets.
• Track record of working at the border between hardware and software.
• A passion for evolving existing production firmware.
• Ability to write automated tests and processes.
• Desire for elegance and simplicity in code.
• Judgement and humility in decision-making.
• Unafraid of new, unknown tech.
• Collaborative spirit and clear communication skills.

Bonus Points

• Claude code, audio-specific development experience.
• PCB design tools (Altium) experience.
• ESP32 specific experience.
• FreeRTOS experience.
• Integration with AWS.
