POSITION SUMMARY

The role of Lead Service Technician Special Operations – Major Correctives directly supports the company’s mission to develop and deliver clean power plants that make 100% renewable energy a reality for the world. As a Service Lead Technician Special Operations – Major Correctives, you will provide technical leadership and execution support for major corrective projects across the wind fleet. This role is responsible for overseeing complex repairs, major component exchanges, recommissioning activities, and specialized operations while ensuring the highest standards of safety, quality, and operational excellence.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

• Lead and support the safe execution of major corrective maintenance activities, main component exchanges, and recommissioning projects.
• Serve as the technical lead for specialized service operations, including statutory inspections, blade inspections, maintenance and repair activities, lift maintenance, and major component repairs.
• Provide technical leadership, coaching, and guidance to technicians and field teams during corrective maintenance projects.
• Coordinate and organize field activities to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with Nordex quality standards.
• Support teams in diagnosing and resolving complex turbine faults and challenges encountered during major component exchanges and corrective maintenance activities.
• Manage lifting operations in coordination with crane providers and external service partners.
• Develop lifting plans when required and verify all applicable safety and operational requirements are met.
• Ensure all tools, equipment, and lifting devices maintain current certifications and are fit for use.
• Oversee technical coordination of field teams and subcontractors during project execution.
• Act as the primary point of contact for customers regarding project status, progress updates, and technical concerns.
• Serve as Special Operations Project Manager when required in regions where a dedicated project management resource is unavailable.
• Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of operational processes, technical procedures, and corrective maintenance practices.
• Support the development and delivery of operational and technical training programs.
• Evaluate technical competencies and provide on-the-job development and mentorship for technicians.
• Facilitate cross-functional and cross-border communication regarding major component repairs and exchange activities.
• Complete all required project documentation, reports, service records, and administrative tasks related to corrective maintenance projects.
• Maintain service vehicles, tools, equipment, inventory, and service points in a clean, organized, and operational condition.
• Ensure compliance with all Nordex Health, Safety, Environmental (HSE), quality, and regulatory requirements.
• Promote and enforce safe work practices among Nordex employees, subcontractors, and suppliers.

WHAT YOU WILL HAVE:

Education & Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate degree in Wind Energy Technology or a related technical field preferred.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in the wind industry, including troubleshooting, maintenance, major corrective activities, or specialized wind turbine operations.
• Experience leading major component exchanges, corrective maintenance projects, or other complex field service activities preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Competencies

• Strong knowledge of wind turbine mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
• Composite repair experience preferred.
• Understanding of epoxy and polyester resin systems.
• Knowledge of wet lay-up and vacuum bagging techniques.
• Experience handling balsa and foam core materials.
• Experience performing structural repairs and fiberglass reinforcement repairs.
• Working knowledge of powered hand tools and associated safety requirements.
• Understanding of quality requirements related to temperature, humidity, and repair specifications.
• Ability to read, interpret, and understand complex technical drawings, schematics, procedures, and work instructions.
• Ability to obtain and maintain certifications required for medium- and high-voltage work.
• Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to guide, coach, and mentor technicians in the field.
• Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis capabilities.
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities, project scopes, and operational demands.
• Proven ability to work independently while also leading and collaborating effectively within a team environment.
• Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and mobile field service applications.
• Experience generating reports, completing documentation, and managing electronic service records.
• Ability to maintain required certifications, including rigger/signal person certification, crane calling certification, and applicable technical training credentials.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with customers, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders.

Travel & Physical Requirements

• Ability to travel up to 100% domestically and internationally for extended periods.
• Willingness to work overtime, rotating schedules, weekends, holidays, and other flexible work schedules based on business needs.
• Ability to spend extended periods away from home while supporting field operations.
• Ability to climb and work at heights exceeding 300 feet (100 meters).
• Ability to work in confined spaces and varying environmental conditions, including heat, cold, humidity, dust, and noise.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment weighing up to 70 pounds.
• Ability to meet OSHA and ANSI weight requirements of 265 pounds or less for fall protection and turbine access equipment.
• Valid driver's license with the ability to maintain insurability under company vehicle policies.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment physical examination and meet all job-related physical requirements.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a valid U.S. Passport and Canadian work authorization.

The pay for this role is non-exempt at $36 - $42 USD hourly with up to a 5% bonus.  Individual compensation packages are based on various factors unique to each candidate, including skill set, experience, qualifications, and other job-related reasons.
