Associate Director, Manufacturing Operations

Vertex Pharmaceuticals seeks an Associate Director to lead cell therapy manufacturing operations at its Boston facility. This role manages multi-product production across three shifts, overseeing team development, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency while reporting to the Senior Director of Manufacturing Operations.
Responsibilities
- Lead execution of multi-product cell therapy manufacturing operations ensuring compliance and efficiency
- Oversee finished drug product manufacturing function and inventory management to support patient needs
- Build, coach, and develop manufacturing team across three shifts; manage succession planning and talent retention
- Drive continuous improvement in manufacturing efficiency, costs, and digitization opportunities
- Align cross-functional stakeholders on strategic manufacturing decisions and operational priorities
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in scientific, technical, or engineering discipline
- 12+ years of experience in pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical manufacturing
- Demonstrated expertise in GMP manufacturing and cGMP-compliant operations
- Experience managing drug product manufacturing site operations and team leadership
- Proficiency in manufacturing execution systems, budgeting, and production planning
- Track record supporting FDA, EMA, and other regulatory inspections successfully
Compensation: $160,000 - $240,000 base
