Coordinates student service personnel such as school counseling department chair, school nurse, dean of students, social worker interventionist, school psychologist, speech pathologist, and special education. Develop Student Handbook. STANDARD #2: Leading and Managing Systems Change The assistant principal creates and implements systems to ensure a safe, orderly, and productive environment for student and adult learning for the purpose of achieving school and district improvement targets. Supervise issuance and use of student hall lockers, parking permits and visitors' passes. Coordinate restorative intervention assignments (RIA), behavior intervention assignments (BIA), detentions and supervised study halls. Approve all pay vouchers connected with student services. Assist in development and supervision of the activity budget. STANDARD #3: Improving Teaching and Learning The assistant principal works with the school staff and community to develop a research-based framework for effective teaching and learning that is refined continuously to improve instruction for all students. Select, assign, supervise and evaluate para-professionals. Coordinate freshmen and transfer students transition and orientation. Evaluate licensed staff. Assist with student growth as measured by data. STANDARD #4: Building and Maintaining Collaborative Relationships The assistant principal creates a collaborative school community where the school staff, students, families, and community interact regularly and share ownership for the success of the school. Communicate with parents, students and teachers regarding student discipline and attendance. Assist and consult with local community agencies connected with student services. Supervise and coordinate free and reduced lunch and waiver applications. STANDARD #5: Leading with Integrity and Professionalism The assistant principal works with the school staff and community to create a positive learning environment by ensuring equity, fulfilling professional responsibilities with honesty and integrity, and modeling professional behavior. Coordinate assignment of extra-curricular assignments as outlined in Appendix B of the Professional Agreement with the Glenbard Education Association. Design programs to meet the needs of low income students. Design programs that support multcultures and student diversity. STANDARD #6: Creating and Sustaining a Culture of High Expectations The assistant principal works with staff and community to build a culture of high expectations and aspirations for every student by setting clear staff and student expectations for positive learning behaviors and by focusing on student's social-emotional learning. Make staff extra duty assignments. Supervise at school events; design and coordinate administrative and licensed staff supervisory assignments. Facilitate PBIS and other climate related programs. Other duties as assigned. Knowledge and Skills Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents such as correspondence, surveys and electronic media. Ability to write professional communications. Ability to present information effectively and to respond to questions from individuals and groups. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and community members. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in written form. Ability to complete mathematical operations and apply concepts of basic mathematics. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to maintain current job skills as directed, especially in technology-related activities. Ability to perform essential duties with an awareness of school district requirements and School Board policies. The employee may occasionally lift up to 30 pounds such as reference books. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The pace of work tasks would be considered as fast. Work is usually conducted at one job site, however, on occasion, this employee will be required to attend meetings, conferences, or workshops and events at other sites as assigned.
