Able Mechanical, Inc. is hiring an experienced Commercial Kitchen Appliance & Refrigeration Technician based in New Jersey . As a proud union shop, we deliver top-tier service across NJ and Staten Island.

In this role, you will travel to commercial clients to troubleshoot, maintain, and repair commercial cooking equipment and cold-side refrigeration systems—including walk-in coolers, walk-in freezers, display cases, reach-in units, prep tables, and commercial ice machines. We are seeking skilled local New Jersey talent with a strong focus on technical precision, safety, and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, gas, and refrigeration system issues on commercial appliances, including ovens, fryers, grills, walk-in coolers, walk-in freezers, ice makers, display cases, and refrigeration units.
• Perform leak detection, system evacuations, refrigerant recovery, and compressor/evaporator repairs adhering to EPA guidelines.
• Conduct routine preventive maintenance on hot and cold systems to optimize energy efficiency, prevent product loss, and prevent costly operational shutdowns.
• Assemble, set up, and commission new commercial kitchen and refrigeration units according to manufacturer specifications and local NJ codes.
• Maintain clear digital service logs outlining parts used, repairs performed, and maintenance schedules.
• Interact professionally with restaurant, hotel, and supermarket management across New Jersey, explaining repairs and offering best-use guidance.

Qualifications & Skills

• Based in or readily accessible to central or statewide New Jersey service routes.
• 3+ years of hands-on technical experience servicing commercial kitchen appliances and commercial refrigeration systems (cold-side expertise strongly preferred).
• Current union member or eligible/willing to join the union upon hire.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• EPA Universal Certification required for cold-side and refrigerant work; CFESA certification is a plus.
• Proficient in reading electrical schematics, gas lines, line voltage, sealed refrigeration cycles, and plumbing.
• Skilled in using digital multimeters, manifold gauges, leak detectors, and standard hand/power tools.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift, move, and maneuver heavy parts or equipment weighing up to 50–75 lbs.
• Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work inside tight kitchen workspaces or walk-in coolers and freezers for extended periods.
