Postdoctoral Research Fellowship

The Department of Emergency Medicine seeks a highly motivated, passionate postdoctoral scholar to study violence and injury prevention using rigorous quantitative, machine learning, geospatial, and quasi-experimental methods. About the Lab The Resilient Futures Research Lab within the Department of Emergency Medicine, Stanford University, is committed to creating evidence that drives action toward creating safe, resilient spaces for youth and communities to thrive. We are an interdisciplinary team of researchers spanning pediatrics, emergency medicine, health policy, and epidemiology, working in partnership with individuals with lived experience. Our research focuses on preventing youth from experiencing multiple forms of violence, as well as unintended injuries, at the individual, community, and population levels. We integrate quantitative data science methods—including geospatial mapping, large-scale data analysis, and machine learning—with community-engaged research methods to better understand the systems and environments that shape youth safety and well-being. Postdoctoral Training Position Description The Resilient Futures Research Lab is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with strong quantitative data analysis skills to join our interdisciplinary team of investigators. The fellowship goals include advancing our research program on youth violence and injury prevention, and to develop the career and scholarly interests of the Fellow. Developing the research program will include supporting the team with quantitative, inferential and spatial analysis, as well as integrating machine learning techniques, and leading and drafting manuscripts. We will support and encourage the candidate’s independent research interests that align with our mission, and will encourage grant applications and facilitate opportunities for building skills in grant writing and other relevant professional development opportunities. The fellow will have opportunities to partner and collaborate with faculty and programs across the University. Required Qualifications Completed a Ph.D. with substantial emphasis on quantitative research methods relevant to population health, epidemiology, biostatistics, computer science/data science, or a related field. Applicants from epidemiology, biostatistics, data science, public health, health services research, geography or spatial science, computer science, economics, or related disciplines are welcome. Range of quantitative skills including graduate-level knowledge of spatial analysis, machine learning, large dataset management, and statistics or econometrics. Proficiency in R and/or Python. Advanced knowledge of R’s and/or Python’s data science and geospatial capabilities will be assessed favorably. Strong record of scholarly achievement, including peer-reviewed publications. Ability to work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary, community-engaged research team.
