Job Description
The Electrical Control Panel Tester inspects, tests, troubleshoots, and validates industrial control panels prior to shipment and installation. This role focuses on ensuring that all panels meet electrical, functional, and quality standards by verifying wiring, control circuitry, and overall system performance. The ideal candidate brings a solid background in electrical wiring, industrial automation, and electrical testing procedures, and works closely with fabrication and assembly teams to resolve issues and improve processes.
Responsibilities
- Perform functional and electrical testing of industrial control panels to verify proper operation and safety.
- Verify panel wiring against electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, panel layout drawings, and customer specifications.
- Troubleshoot wiring issues, component failures, and control circuit problems to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.
- Test and validate control systems including PLC-controlled equipment, motor starters, variable frequency drives (VFDs), relays, power supplies, and associated components.
- Use electrical testing equipment such as multimeters, megohm meters, continuity testers, and other diagnostic tools to assess system performance and integrity.
- Identify and document deficiencies in panel construction or performance, implement corrective actions, and verify that repairs are completed accurately.
- Ensure compliance with UL standards, NEC requirements, and internal quality procedures for all tested panels.
- Assist fabrication and assembly teams in resolving wiring and design-related issues to improve panel quality and reliability.
- Maintain accurate testing records, quality documentation, and reports for all panels tested.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to panel assembly and testing processes, contributing ideas to enhance efficiency and quality.
- Support startup and commissioning activities for control panels when needed, collaborating with project teams to ensure successful deployment.
Essential Skills
- Strong knowledge of electrical wiring practices and control circuitry for industrial control panels.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, and panel layout drawings.
- Hands-on experience performing electrical and functional testing on industrial control panels.
- Proficiency using electrical testing equipment such as multimeters, megohm meters, continuity testers, and related diagnostic tools.
- Demonstrated troubleshooting skills for wiring issues, component failures, and complex control circuit problems.
- Understanding of UL standards and NEC requirements as they apply to industrial control panels and electrical installations.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in verifying wiring, documenting deficiencies, and confirming corrective actions.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with fabrication and assembly teams to resolve technical and design-related issues.
- Strong documentation skills for maintaining testing records and quality-related reports.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- background or experience as a journeyman electrician or similar role working with industrial electrical systems.
- Experience with PLC-controlled equipment, motor starters, VFDs, relays, and power supplies in an industrial environment.
- Familiarity with continuous improvement practices related to manufacturing, assembly, or testing processes.
- Comfort supporting startup and commissioning activities for industrial control systems.
- Commitment to safety and adherence to electrical codes and company quality standards.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.
