Mental Health Specialist IV - per diem - (Multiple Positions)

Overview Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care (UBHC), established in 1971, offers a full continuum of evidence‑based behavioral health and addiction services for children, adolescents, adults, and seniors throughout New Jersey. UBHC employs 1,060 experienced professionals and support staff dedicated to treatment, prevention, and education. With a budget of $260 million and 15 sites statewide, services include inpatient, outpatient, partial hospitalization, screening, crisis stabilization, family/caregiver support, community outreach, case management, supportive housing, supported employment, prevention and consultation, employee assistance programs, and a licensed therapeutic school from preschool through high school. Posting Summary The per‑diem Mental Health Specialist IV works in Acute Psychiatric Services, supporting clinical delivery in the unit. Provides telephone coverage for the unit. Documents all telephone calls in the Acute Psychiatric Services (APS) telephone log or Electronic Medical Record (EMR). Maintains confidentiality of information in accordance with UBHC policy, University policy, Joint Commission standards, and Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) requirements. Refers consumer calls to a clinician as directed by the Program Coordinator. Assists in the provision of direct care for individuals in the Early Childhood and Education Behavioral (ECEB). Assists consumers and/or families in completing registration paperwork. Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience Successful completion of a one‑year training program as a Mental Health Specialist Trainee or one year of comparable full‑time paid experience (part‑time and/or per diem may be substituted for the full‑time equivalent) in a mental health field. At least two years of college, preferably in a related field, including twelve verified credits in a relevant mental health, social or human services field, may be substituted for the minimum requirements. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Adequate written and verbal communication skills. Ability to document in an electronic medical record and in Microsoft Word. Preferred Qualifications Ability to enter information into a database and to use UBHC registration software with accuracy.
