Category: Professional Salary Range: Min $29.99 - Max $43.48/hourly (DOE) Category: Professional Job Overview This position is responsible for direct supervision of the Patient Financial Services staff, greeting patients as needed, communicating with clinical departments, and providing customer service. The coordinator also manages office supplies, actively participates in quality improvement initiatives, provides training for new staff, evaluates staff productivity and performance, and performs and directs daily operational duties under the direction of a Manager. Prerequisites Associate’s degree or preferred B.A./B.S. degree. At least 3 years of experience in a hospital PFS department. Prefer at least 1 year of experience as a lead or supervisor. Competency in Microsoft Office and patient accounting systems. Proven leadership ability, including motivating team members and achieving performance goals. Effective verbal communication in English. Qualifications Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills. Strong customer service and problem‑resolution skills. Leadership and role‑model ability in teamwork situations. Flexibility and adaptability to remain organized and positive in a changing environment. Hands‑on knowledge of billing, insurance follow‑up, customer service, collections, or cash posting. Ability to give direction and obtain results from others. Capacity to counsel and discuss improvements in work performance. Assistance with annual staff evaluations and counseling as directed by the Manager. Physical and Working Conditions Requires typing, legible handwriting, keyboard skills, and excellent telephone communication. Regular and punctual attendance is required. The role demands maintaining self‑composure and a positive attitude under stress, flexible scheduling, overtime, problem solving, and conflict resolution. Performance Responsibilities Interview and make hiring recommendations. Coordinate and provide training and orientation for new staff. Act as expert resource and independently resolve complex issues. Collaborate and share knowledge with team members. Monitor workload assignments and maintain staff education records. Monitor supplies cost and usage; report to the department manager as needed. Assist with QA/QC/QI projects as directed. Write and maintain PFS department procedure manuals and competency documentation. Maintain efficient workflow and staff schedules. Maintain positive inter‑personal collegial relationships. Manage relationships with key personnel at payers, vendors, and VMC departments. Recommend hiring, termination, promotion, and corrective action decisions. Develop and present staff 90‑day and annual performance evaluations. Provide input on operating and capital budgets. Participate in and facilitate staff meetings as required. Research and resolve customer complaints. Attend internal and external leadership and education meetings. Participate in internal operations meetings as directed by the Manager or Director. Maintain confidentiality of all protected health information. Demonstrate awareness of cost containment for the department. Suggest process or quality improvement opportunities. Ensure compliance with VMC, governmental, and payer regulations and rules.
