Associate Water and Wastewater Facility Operations Specialist

Date: May 19, 2026 Location: Overland Park, KS, US; Creve Coeur, MO, US; Indianapolis, IN, US; Dallas, TX, US; Columbus, OH, US Company: Black & Veatch Family of Companies The Opportunity As a Water and Wastewater Facility Operations Specialist, you will serve as a technical specialist assisting in the startup and commissioning of water and wastewater facilities. You will develop and apply fundamental process engineering techniques, collaborate with operations staff, and create commissioning and O&M documentation. Key Responsibilities Review contractor startup documents. Develop commissioning plans and support commissioning planning efforts. Provide onsite startup and commissioning support to new and existing water and wastewater facilities. Prepare standard operating procedures and process operations manuals. Develop operator process training materials and conduct onsite training for operations staff. Read and understand drawings, specifications, design memos, and startup/commissioning requirements to support facility commissioning. Collect, assimilate, interpret, and manage data for startup and commissioning efforts. Collaborate, communicate, and work effectively in a team environment. Preferred Qualifications Typically a minimum of 1 year related work experience. Water or wastewater operator’s license preferred. Bachelor’s degree in engineering technology or sciences, or a related degree that uniquely qualifies the applicant. Preferred non‑technical skills: learning on the fly, problem solving, intellectual horsepower, written communication, drive for results, informing, listening, dealing with ambiguity. Preferred technical skills: basic ability to interpret engineering deliverables, basic industry knowledge and technology trends, basic understanding of company quality program, construction and constructability practices, procurement and contract administration, project controls and estimating, technical aspects of the proposal process. Minimum Qualifications Complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements (criminal/civil background check, drug screen, motor vehicle records search) in compliance with applicable laws. Must have a valid driver’s license. Work Environment / Physical Demands Potential travel up to 75%.
