General Accountant

Taft is seeking a General Accountant to support our team in Taft’s Phoenix or Capitol Hill, D.C. office. We are seeking a General Accountant with 2+ years of payroll experience to support our team in our Phoenix or Capitol Hill, D.C. office. All Taft employees operate under a “Client First” philosophy — in all things, we seek to provide exceptional services to our clients. Duties and Responsibilities Processes accounts payable and expense reimbursements. Serve as a key accounting resource and business partner in assigned office. Ensures the accuracy and timely distribution of client bills. Responds to individual attorney, vendor and client requests and questions. Ensures compliance with Taft’s billing policies and procedures. Reviews accounting e-mail requests and responds within established timeframes. Maintains various accounting reports, spreadsheets and files as assigned. Oversees the preparation, tracking, and payment of tax liabilities. Preparation of monthly bank reconciliations and vendor deposit reconciliations. Responsible for special projects, analysis, and other departmental duties as assigned. Provides support and back up as needed for other accounting team members across the firm. Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, Interpersonal and Other Requirements Ability to work independently and to organize and prioritize numerous tasks. Ability to respond to requests requiring analysis of client billing histories and other basic financial analysis. Proficiency in the use of spreadsheet applications including Excel. Strong interpersonal skills in order to communicate and follow instructions effectively from attorneys and staff and provide information. Strong numeric and financial aptitude. Ability to maintain cordial, collaborative and productive work relationships. Requirements Associate’s degree in accounting or business, or equivalent experience. Minimum of two years of general accounting or related experience. Experience working with specialized accounting/billing software strongly preferred.
