Job Description

The Welder Repair Technician travels to customer facilities to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain a wide range of manual, semi-automatic, robotic, and custom welding systems. This role focuses on diagnosing and resolving electrical and mechanical issues, performing NIST-traceable calibrations, and completing welding gun repairs to ensure equipment operates safely and efficiently. The technician works closely with customers, vendors, sales teams, and operations personnel to deliver timely, high-quality service and technical support.

Responsibilities

• Travel to customer facilities to perform on-site troubleshooting, repair, and preventative maintenance on manual, semi-automatic, robotic, GMAW, GTAW, PAW, and custom welding systems.
• Diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical issues on welding equipment, including welding machines, power supplies, wire feeders, and automated welding systems.
• Conduct NIST-traceable calibrations on welding equipment to ensure accuracy, reliability, and compliance with required standards.
• Perform welding gun repairs, including replacing tips, nozzles, liners, and trigger switch wiring, to restore equipment to proper operating condition.
• Utilize diagnostic equipment, hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment to identify faults and complete repairs efficiently and safely.
• Document all service activities, including diagnostics, repairs, calibrations, and maintenance performed, in a clear and accurate manner.
• Provide technical support and guidance to customers, vendors, sales teams, and operations personnel regarding welding equipment performance and maintenance needs.
• Communicate effectively with customers to explain findings, recommend solutions, and ensure high levels of service quality and customer satisfaction.
• Follow work orders and schedules to start the workday at 7:30 a.m. or 8:00 a.m., and complete assigned service calls within the planned timeframe.
• Perform additional work during the week after the regular shift when needed, contributing to a workload of up to approximately 50 hours per week.
• Adhere to safety procedures and best practices while working with electrical, mechanical, and robotic welding systems in customer facilities.
• Collaborate with internal teams to coordinate parts, tools, and resources required to complete service tasks on time.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 1 year of experience in industrial maintenance, welder repair, or field service.
• 1–3+ years of experience repairing welding equipment, with demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues.
• Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills for electrical and mechanical systems related to welding equipment.
• Hands-on experience with calibration, repair, and maintenance of welding machines and associated components.
• Ability to work with robotic and automated welding systems and understand their operational requirements.
• Proficiency in using diagnostic equipment, hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment safely and effectively.
• Capability to perform detailed welding gun repairs, including replacement of tips, nozzles, liners, and trigger switch wiring.
• Solid understanding of electrical maintenance principles as they apply to welding power supplies and related equipment.
• Strong communication skills to interact professionally with customers, vendors, sales teams, and operations personnel.
• Ability to manage time effectively, follow work orders, and handle a schedule that may reach approximately 50 hours per week.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working with a variety of welding equipment brands and models.
• Experience in field service work, including traveling to and working within customer facilities.
• Comfort with providing technical support and explaining repair findings and recommendations to non-technical stakeholders.
• Attention to detail when performing NIST-traceable calibrations and documenting service activities.
• Commitment to safety and adherence to established procedures when working with electrical and mechanical systems.

Work Environment

This role is primarily field-based, with travel to local customer facilities throughout the workday. The typical schedule starts at 7:30 a.m. or 8:00 a.m., depending on work orders, and runs until approximately 4:30 p.m., with the option to work additional hours during the week, leading to a maximum of around 50 hours per week. You will work in industrial environments around welding machines, power supplies, wire feeders, robotic systems, and automated welding equipment. The work involves regular use of diagnostic equipment, hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment, and requires adherence to safety practices appropriate for electrical and mechanical maintenance in welding and industrial settings.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $37440.00 - $39520.00/yr.
