The Gallipolis Developmental Center is located along the Ohio River in Gallipolis. We provide off-campus work/habilitative activities during the day, an on-ground Activity Center for habilitation, recreation, work-readiness and therapeutic training, and a full array of health services. Job Description What You’ll Do: Administer nursing care within the scope of practice as outlined in section 4723.01 to 4723.40 of the Ohio Revised Code. Works under the direction of a Registered Nurse, licensed Physician, Dentist, Podiatrist, or Optometrist. Perform skilled practical nursing procedures and treatments (e.g., obtain vital statistics, apply oxygen, apply sterile dressing, insert catheters, reinstate gastrostomy tubes, suction, wound care, administer enemas, douches, obtain specimens, administer Enteral feedings, administer medications (controlled and non-controlled) including oral, rectal, topical, inhalation, subcutaneous and intramuscular). Observe, document and report patient conditions and take appropriate actions. Provide thorough and knowledgeable report of patient needs to RN/Physician. Provide patient teaching. Monitor patients during and after procedures. Assist RN and Physician as needed. Respond to emergencies, provide first aid, perform CPR, and use AED in emergencies. Maintain medical accountability records and prepare related reports/forms (e.g., charts/patient records, medication administration records, unusual incident forms, seizure documentation forms, restraint logs, and other forms as required). Complete thorough documentation and verify/implement physician orders. Maintain controlled drug administration/tracking records and report inaccuracies immediately. Maintain infection control documentation. Maintain work assignment records and forms as needed. Maintain supplies to ensure an organized, stocked work area. Communicate with pharmacy to maintain medication stocks. Maintain assigned medical work areas (clean equipment/carts/cabinets/storage areas). Perform clerical tasks (answer phones, file, copy, fax). Provide general nursing care and, as needed, assist and provide direction, orientation and training to lower-level staff. Attend medical appointments and participate in meetings as needed. Respond to patient alarms and maintain patient supervision levels as required. Confer with Nursing Supervisor or Director of Nursing in her absence regarding nursing needs.
