Summary Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations, San Francisco Field Office, Area port of San Francisco, located in San Francisco, California. Additional selections may be made beyond the total number of vacancies specified using this vacancy announcement. Responsibilities Joining Customs & Border Protection will allow you to use your expertise to analyze and advise management on a wide range of program activities. Typical work assignments include: Preparing a variety of comprehensive status reports, summaries, and briefing papers, which identify problems, assess the overall condition, and outline issues, solutions and recommendations. Adapting existing analytical methods and techniques to specific issues and developing new approaches to resolve complex problems and issues. Reviewing information, reconciling conflicting data, and devising new and modified methods to analyze findings. Advising management of unique conditions and issues that affect administrative functions and providing guidance on interpretation and implementation of new and revised legislation, policies, regulations and procedures. Reviewing and evaluating established program policies and procedures to determine gaps where additional guidance is needed; formulating and recommending additional policies or procedures, or modifications to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of current program operations. Qualifications Experience: You qualify for the GS-12 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Developing or refining internal policies, standard operating procedures, or guidance to address gaps and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of program operations. Assessing the impact of laws, regulations, policies, and procedures on program operations, and advising management on interpretation and implementation of new or revised requirements. Preparing comprehensive reports, briefing materials, and presentations that explain complex analytical findings and persuade management to adopt recommended changes. Gathering and reconciling data from multiple sources, analyzing conflicting information, and adapting or modifying analytical techniques to address a variety of program and management issues. Coordinating with managers, program staff, and/or representatives of other offices or agencies to obtain information, discuss issues, and support the implementation of recommended changes to programs or administrative processes. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process by 07/24/2026. In addition to the application and application questionnaire, this position requires an online assessment. The online assessment measures critical general competencies required to perform the job. The USA Hire Assessments includes a cut score based on the minimum level of required proficiency in these critical general competencies. You must meet or exceed the cut score to be considered.
