Position Summary

The Logistics Specialist is responsible for the daily planning, dispatch, and management of an assigned group of approximately 15 OTR drivers. This hands-on role serves as the drivers' primary point of contact and their own front-line customer service representative, ensuring loads move on schedule, drivers are supported, and service commitments are met from planning through delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Planning — Build and manage daily and weekly schedules for assigned drivers, balancing service needs with driver availability.
• Dispatch — Assign and release loads to drivers, adjusting in real time as conditions change.
• Driver Communication — Maintain regular, clear communication with drivers throughout their shifts and routes.
• Service — Own customer service for assigned drivers' loads, acting as their direct point of contact rather than routing issues to a separate team.
• Home Time — Track and manage driver home-time schedules and expectations.
• Daily Execution — Oversee day-to-day execution of planned loads to ensure on-time pickup and delivery.
• Schedule delivery appointments, or cancel appointments as needed, based on drivers' current loads.
• Monitor the dispatch inbox for emails pertaining to assigned drivers and respond or act on them promptly.
• Coordinate with the Logistics Lead Planner before requesting additional freight to confirm alignment with available network capacity.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Prior experience in driver management, dispatch, or fleet operations preferred.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple drivers and priorities simultaneously.
• Comfortable owning customer service responsibilities directly, without relying on a separate service team.
• Ability to monitor and manage a shared or individual email inbox for time-sensitive, driver-related communication.
• Working knowledge of Hours of Service (HOS) regulations and driver scheduling best practices.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working within an OTR dry van fleet operation.
• Hands-on experience with TMS platforms (LoadStop, McLeod, or similar) and ELD systems (Motive, Samsara, or similar).
• Background in appointment scheduling, home-time coordination, or driver retention programs.
• Familiarity with FMCSA and DOT compliance requirements.
