About the Position

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care to complex ICU patients including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma populations in a mixed ICU environment divided into specialty pods
• Manage patients with diagnoses including ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac cath, post-surgical, and multiple system trauma in a high-acuity, fast-paced setting
• Administer and monitor IV medications including vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics; manage hemodynamic lines, ventilators, and proning as needed
• Maintain patient ratios of 1:1 or 1:2 (1:3 rare and acuity-dependent), utilizing strong critical thinking and assessment skills
• Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team including intensivists, APPs, charge nurses, CNAs, respiratory therapy, and phlebotomy; may precept nursing students
• Float to adult floors including Med/Surg or Telemetry (1:4 ratio) if overstaffed; float to CVICU side only if experienced in that specialty

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license - South Dakota Board of Nursing (or compact eligibility); must have completed an approved nursing education program
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience excluding travel experience (candidates with 1.5 years ICU experience plus significant RN experience outside ICU may be considered with management approval)
• Minimum one prior travel assignment required - first-time travelers will not be considered
• BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• TNCC certification required - candidates unwilling to obtain prior to start will not be considered
• Proficiency in Epic (required for this unit)
• Must reside at least 100 miles from any facility in this health system to be eligible

• Cardiac experience preferred, including CABG/TAVR and 24-48 hour post-op care
• Experience with Impella, IABP, and CRRT strongly preferred
• Familiarity with Alaris or Baxter pump systems and Omnicell
• Comfort with telemetry monitoring and experience in high-acuity trauma environments

• Work in a well-supported ICU environment with 24/7 respiratory therapy, intensivist coverage on all shifts, charge nurse oversight, CNA support, and resource nurse availability
