Consultant, Investment Accounting

Overview As a Consultant, you will work with investment accounting leadership on the most complex investment accounting functions and responsibilities. You will provide consultation on optimal practices for acquiring, evaluating, interpreting, recording and analyzing financial data used to prepare financial reports, documents and statements for various regulatory and statutory authorities as well as for internal management of all levels. Key Responsibilities Coordinate research, analysis and implementation of new and revised investment accounting policies and procedures. Lead development of recommendations to enhance, improve or facilitate job performance, processing or workflow. Advise senior management on industry practices for acquiring data, recording and analyzing complex investment accounting transactions and statements. Develop and submit complex investment accounting and financial transactions to ensure proper reporting. Advise management on the accuracy of all reports, forms and data provided to internal and external clients/customers. Coordinate the development of actions and policies to address unfavorable financial situations disclosed by investment accounting analysis. Stay up-to-date on GAAP regulatory changes and serve as specialist on changes that impact financial document submission. Provide consultation to management on the internal impact of regulatory changes. Lead projects in development and design of new and enhanced systems and processes within assigned areas. Guide preparation and analysis of complex pro forma financial data required for compliance with new requirements. Consult on applying financial data and analysis to solve administrative and operational problems. Provide consulting on supplemental reporting requirements for the company(ies) and business areas. Coordinate and lead preparation of complex financial information for internal and external auditors, IRS, state examiners and other regulatory agencies. Provide consulting on preparation of special reports and presentations as advised. Serve in a lead consultant capacity to other investment accountants on selected projects. Perform other responsibilities as assigned. Reporting Relationships Reports to the Investment Accounting Manager/Director. This is an individual‑contributor role that may serve in a project‑lead capacity. Typical Skills and Experiences Education : Undergraduate studies in accounting, finance or business administration. Accounting major and degree preferred. Certification : Progress toward CPA designation preferred. Experience : Seven years of investment accounting experience, preferably in the insurance or financial services industry and within a specific product/business area. GAAP knowledge and regulatory requirements for functional business areas. Knowledge of industry practices for complex financial statement preparation, including consolidation of subsidiaries. Principles of taxation and related impact on financial statement preparation. Experience with investment accounting or business computer systems. Understanding of company organizational structure and products/services. Strong verbal and written communication skills for internal and external contacts. Analytical and problem‑solving skills for investment accounting problems and interpretation of financial documents. Project management skills. Ability to interpret changes in financial reporting and legal requirements and their impact on policies and procedures. Advanced computer skills with related software. Ability to apply investment accounting principles, theories, concepts and practices to complex, unique and nonrecurring problems. Job Conditions Overtime Eligibility: Exempt (Not eligible). Working conditions are a normal office environment with occasional extended hours during high‑volume periods. Salary Range Consultant, Investment Accounting Advisor: $97,000.00 – $180,000.00 (expected starting range $97,000.00 – $145,000.00).
