Job Summary:

The optician is responsible for managing optical services, including eyewear selection, ordering, fitting, and Relative education, resulting in accurate, timely, high-quality vision correction and culturally competent service delivery

Essential Functions:

• Assist Relatives with frame and lens selection based on prescription and lifestyle needs to ensure optimal visual outcomes and patient satisfaction.
• Interpret prescriptions and recommend appropriate lens designs and materials to provide accurate and effective vision correction.
• Perform optical measurements (PD, seg height, OC height, etc.) to ensure proper fit and functionality of eyewear.
• Adjust, fit, and repair eyewear to improve comfort, usability, and patient satisfaction.
• Enter and process eyewear orders in the point of sale and electronic health record to ensure accuracy and timely fulfillment.
• Track and follow up on orders with the optical lab to prevent delays and maintain Relative satisfaction.
• Inspect completed eyewear upon arrival to verify accuracy before dispensing to patients.
• Manage frame inventory, including ordering, receiving, and organizing stock to maintain adequate selection and control costs.
• Monitor usage trends and vendor performance through point-of-sale system to support cost-effective purchasing decisions.
• Educate Relatives on lens options, coatings, and proper eyewear care to improve product longevity and patient understanding.
• Provide clear communication regarding order timeliness and expectations to reduce confusion and improve Relative experience.
• Address and resolve Relative concerns related to eyewear to maintain trust and satisfaction.
• Verify eligibility for Medicaid and eyewear assistance programs to ensure appropriate billing and coverage.
• Maintain accurate documentation of orders and services to support compliance and audit readiness.
• Coordinate with clinical staff regarding prescriptions and Relative needs to ensure continuity of care.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the optical area to create a professional and welcoming environment.
• Assist with reporting on optical metrics (orders, remakes, turnaround time) to support operational oversight and improvement.
• Adhere to HIPAA and confidentiality standards to protect Relative information and maintain trust.
• Follow all policies and procedures to ensure regulatory compliance and operational consistency.
• Maintain professional communication with Relatives, coworkers, and external stakeholders to support a respectful and productive work environment.
• Participate in required trainings to maintain competency and improve job performance.
• Maintain consistent and reliable attendance, including arriving on time and adhering to scheduled work hours to ensure continuity of Relative care, adequate staffing coverage, and efficient clinical operations.

Physical Requirements

Perform duties that require prolonged standing, walking, and/or sitting throughout the workday to ensure continuous Relative care and support efficient clinic operations.
• Use manual dexterity to operate equipment, computers, and small instruments to accurately perform testing, documentation, and Relative care tasks.
• Lift carry and move equipment and supplies (up to designated weight limits) to maintain stocked, functional, and organized clinical and work areas.
• Maintain visual acuity and attention to detail when performing clinical or administrative tasks to ensure accuracy in measurements and documentation.


Minimum Qualifications:


High school diploma or equivalent

Specialized training in the field of work including college courses, certificate program, apprenticeship, etc. is preferred

Experience as an Optometry Technician is preferred.

Current BLS certification.
