Domain Architect, Applications and Integration
AbbVie
AbbVie seeks a Domain Architect to lead integration architecture, API governance, and ecosystem roadmap for commercial business technology. The role manages design reviews, enforces architecture standards, and drives continuous improvement across middleware, APIs, and cross-platform systems.
Responsibilities
- Own ecosystem roadmap, architecture standards, and design review operations for middleware and API governance across commercial systems
- Lead Domain Review Board sessions, enforce architecture compliance, and adjudicate interface ownership disputes between teams
- Develop and deliver training on API design standards, event schemas, and integration patterns to delivery teams and architects
- Drive interface rationalization, identify duplicate APIs and pipelines, and lead build-buy-wait evaluations with cost analysis
- Establish and maintain API governance frameworks including versioning policy, security patterns, and reusability criteria
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field plus 9 years experience; or Master's degree plus 8 years; or PhD plus 4 years
- Progressive enterprise, domain, or solution architecture experience with focus on integration or API platform architecture at scale
- Deep experience with enterprise API management platforms (MuleSoft, Apigee, or equivalent) including gateway design and policy enforcement
- Demonstrated mastery of enterprise integration patterns: synchronous APIs, asynchronous messaging, event-driven, batch/file, and platform-native integration
- Proven track record establishing API governance, design standards, and contract-first development in organizations lacking these practices
