Shipfitter 1st Class | Pascagoula, MS $42hr & $180day perdiem
We're actively hiring experienced Shipfitter 1st Class professionals for long-term shipbuilding work in Pascagoula, Mississippi. This is an excellent opportunity to join a leading shipbuilding program with competitive pay, bonus opportunities, and per diem available for qualified candidates.
As a Shipfitter, you'll be responsible for laying out, fitting, assembling, and installing structural steel components used in the construction of commercial and military vessels. Candidates must be comfortable working from blueprints and technical drawings while maintaining high standards of quality and safety.
What You'll Do
- Read and interpret shipbuilding blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
- Layout, fit, align, and assemble structural steel components.
- Cut, grind, bend, and shape steel plate and structural members.
- Install bulkheads, foundations, decks, frames, and other ship structures.
- Use trade-specific tools and equipment to fit and assemble ship components.
- Verify dimensions and ensure work meets quality and production requirements.
- Work safely in production environments, including heights, confined spaces, and varying weather conditions.
- Collaborate with welders and other trades to meet production schedules.
What We're Looking For
- Minimum 3-5 years of shipfitting experience in a shipyard or heavy industrial environment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints using standard and metric measurements.
- Strong knowledge of layout, fit-up, and fabrication of steel plate and structural beams.
- Experience using grinders, hand torches, hydraulic and ratchet jacks, chain falls, come-a-longs, combination squares, framing squares, hand levels, and plumb bobs.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
- Commitment to safety, quality, and teamwork.
- Basic math, reading, and comprehension skills.
Compensation
Up to $42.00 per hour based on experience and qualifications.
In addition, eligible employees may qualify for a $250 Weekly Attendance Bonus. Qualified non-local candidates may also be eligible for $180 Daily Per Diem.
