Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: 4N Ortho-Neuro - Med Surg Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS (AHA) Must-Have: - Experience with ortho patients - PCA pump experience Description: All submissions must include an unexpired copy of the candidate's driver's license. EPIC experience is required. The unit has 33 beds, all private rooms. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1 to 6. Common diagnoses include elective surgeries such as hips, knees, and shoulders, as well as fractures from falls, back and neck surgeries, and general Med Surg cases. RNs are not required to titrate drips. Common drips include IV fluids and PCA pumps, but not heparin or other drips. There is a Charge Nurse available 24/7. Day charge may take patients if necessary; night charge will always take a full patient assignment. Patient Care Techs (PCTs) assist within the unit, aiming for a ratio of 4 PCTs when full, though there may typically be 3 or occasionally 2, depending on staffing. PCT duties include vitals, blood sugar checks, activities of daily living, and they can discontinue foleys. Respiratory equipment, including CPAP, BiPAP, and High Flow, is managed per respiratory therapy. Remote telemetry is monitored, but RNs do not read strips. Perm staff does self-scheduling while travelers will be scheduled where needed. Block scheduling is allowed if unit needs are met. Every other weekend is required for night shifts, specifically Friday/Saturday/Sunday. Holiday requirements vary based on unit needs. Travelers may be expected to work holidays if there aren’t enough permanent staff. Travelers are the first to float to any Med Surg units, and if floated to telemetry, they will be assigned patients within their skill set. Scrub color is royal blue, and jackets, if worn, must be royal blue scrub jackets; no hoodies or sweat jackets. There is a 1-day orientation on the floor with a preceptor, followed by the 3rd day on their own. Additional notes are not applicable. Candidates should note any time-off requests during the prescreen process. The client may cancel two shifts per 13-week assignment. Charting system used is EPIC. A BSN is not required. This position is within an acute care setting. The shift schedule is for 12-hour nights, with weekends as scheduled. Required certifications include BLS (AHA).
