Travel Psychiatric Nurse (RN) | Mount Washington, Kentucky

This contract position on a specialized behavioral health unit offers the opportunity to provide compassionate, skilled care for patients with a wide range of behavioral and mental health needs. The 23-bed unit serves a pediatric and adolescent population facing challenges such as aggression, self-harm, trauma, and impulse-control disorders.


Schedule:

• Three 12-hour shifts per week
• Rotating weekends (every third weekend)
• No on-call requirements
• Holiday coverage based on facility schedule
• Flexibility to float between child and adult units as needed

Qualifications:

• Registered Nurse, licensed to practice
• BLS certification required
• CPI certification obtained on site (must be able to safely restrain and assist pediatric patients physically)
• At least six months of recent psychiatric nursing experience
• Previous travel experience (must have completed at least one travel assignment)
• Strong de-escalation skills and experience managing multiple escalated situations
• Comfortable with IM medication administration and milieu management
• Willingness and ability to manage a unit independently, across a wide age range and varying functioning levels

Responsibilities:

• Care for pediatric/adolescent patients presenting with acute behavioral challenges
• Administer medications, including IM meds and asthma treatments
• Utilize EMR (Cerner) and unit-specific equipment like restraint beds and chairs
• Make informed decisions regarding seclusion/restraints and safety interventions
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including case managers, therapists, and security personnel
• Adapt to unit needs, including floating between patient age groups and units
