Job Summary Provide hands‑on technical services and practical application guidance to students and faculty in an undergraduate engineering research setting. Technician duties depend on the specialized field of study. Supports the instructional mission by maintaining the mechanical aspects of the laboratories and specialized equipment. Refer to the job description addendum for specific area responsibilities. Key Responsibilities Maintain and repair engineering lab equipment and associated records. Prepare lab equipment for courses, purchase parts/products, and support fabrication of components, lab projects, student projects, test specimens, and research parts. Assist students and faculty with fabrication and assembly, ensuring safety training and proper practices. Maintain inventory and enforce laboratory organization and cleanliness. Complete periodic training courses and maintain skill knowledge with evolving technology. Provide guidance on safe equipment operation and laboratory procedures. Support the College by fabricating and repairing equipment and by working 10‑30% each week across multiple departments on college‑related tasks. Procure components and materials for fabrication, assembly, and repair of laboratory systems. Required Qualifications Educational Requirements: Associate’s, technical, vocational or related degree and/or certificate from an accredited institution or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Other Required Qualifications: Current, valid and unrestricted driver’s license. Required Experience: None. Preferred Qualifications Preferred Educational Qualifications: Advanced degree in a related field OR certificate in an engineering technology discipline. Preferred Experience: Two years of related work experience, previous industrial experience, experience with customers and/or in higher education. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Extensive knowledge of safety standards and engineering materials. Knowledge of programming for CNC/G‑code and other equipment. Proficiency with CAD/CAM software such as SolidWorks. Excellent interpersonal, teamwork, problem‑solving, organization, and communication skills. Strong customer‑service skills, phone and email etiquette. Proficient with computer applications (Microsoft Office, CAD/CAM). Strong attention to detail and follow‑up skills.
