Outreach Phlebotomist

Overview The Outreach Phlebotomist travels to local skilled care facilities to perform venipuncture, skin puncture, registration, and point‑of‑care testing as needed in the ambulatory setting. The role also includes phlebotomy duties in ambulatory clinics and demonstrates excellent communication and patient‑care skills. Qualifications Driver's License – Illinois Secretary of State. Proof of Auto Insurance – Varies. Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days – American Heart Association (AHA). High School Diploma or GED (Required). Six months of phlebotomy experience or completion of Carle Phlebotomy in Training Program. Responsibilities Performs a variety of routine and complex blood‑drawing procedures including venipuncture, finger and heel sticks, and blood cultures; ensures quality by verifying patient identification and specimen labeling; performs point‑of‑care testing, specimen processing, and EKGs in ambulatory settings; registers patients and enters lab orders into the lab computer system; represents the Outreach Phlebotomy team, servicing regional skilled‑care facilities, South Clinic Lab, Heart and Vascular Institute Lab, and Curtis, Windsor, Rantoul, and Mahomet Labs; collects specimens for diagnostic testing, provides patients with collection containers and instructions, and performs EKGs and various point‑of‑care tests in outpatient settings; manages patient registrations and insurance entry in Epic Prelude; transcribes orders from non‑Carle providers into Epic; reviews and records documentation of proficiency and competency testing; participates in re‑education or re‑training as needed; adheres to laboratory and organizational policies and procedures; and continuously completes continuing education as required by lab policy. Compensation and Benefits The compensation range for this position is $17.46 per hour – $28.29 per hour, with the final offer depending on experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts, and compensation model.
