Project Engineer II

Project Engineer IIMARS Energy Solutions is seeking a Project Engineer II to support the design and execution of solar PV, BESS, and EV infrastructure projects. Reporting to a Senior Project Engineer and supporting the Project Manager, this role carries a genuine 50/50 split between design and field work. The PE II performs the same core engineering work as a PE I but operates with limited day-to-day supervision and helps guide more junior engineers.Location: Rocklin, CA (Remote Eligible – U.S.-Based Candidates)Key ResponsibilitiesProject Engineers split their time roughly evenly between design and field execution, reporting to a Senior Project Engineer in support of the Project Manager.Support early-stage design — preliminary PV layouts and stringing concepts in Helioscope and AutoCAD — feeding the engineering team's basis of designProduce CAD design work including line-side tap detail drawings, collaborating with the Engineering Director and field operations team on PE-stamped setsSupport drawing package revisions through design and construction to an approved-for-construction setProcess submittals and RFIs through Procore — no material installed without an approved submittal, no field change on a verbal approvalSupport procurement accuracy and vendor coordination against the construction scheduleProvide technical support for utility interconnection and AHJ permitting, including technical responses and supporting the path to PTOSupport Methods of Procedure (MOPs) for outage and tie-in workConduct site visits to verify installation conforms to IFC drawings and support crews at key milestonesSupport pre-energization documentation in adherence with the MARS Build StandardsSupport commissioning — DC string testing, IR survey coordination, and deficiency trackingMaintain as-built redlines in Procore and photograph concealed work prior to coverOwn project closeout coordination to the MARS "O&M Ready" standard, with full turnover documentationAssist Business Development with pre-contract due diligence and site assessmentsExperience & Education4+ years in solar PV design, project engineering, or a closely related fieldCarries the responsibilities above across multiple concurrent projects with limited supervision, including interconnection from application through PTOBachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related technical field; equivalent experience considered, ABET accredited degree a plus.Skills, Knowledge & AbilitiesComfortable splitting time between design/office and active field work — not a pure desk jobWorking knowledge of Helioscope, PVSyst, AutoCAD, and ProcoreUnderstanding of NEC and solar PV components; California Electrical Code a plusAble to read construction drawings, structural plans, and single-line diagramsUnderstands that deviations require documented engineering disposition — verbal approvals do not countStrong communication across clients, contractors, utilities, and AHJs; willing to stop work and escalate when the field conflicts with approved drawingsPhysical Demands & Work EnvironmentWalk active sites, climb ladders/stairs, lift up to 50 lbs.Frequent travel to project sites; work outdoors in varying conditionsBenefits & PerksMedical, Dental, and Vision InsuranceCompany-paid Life and AD&D Insurance401(k) Retirement Plan with Company MatchPaid Time Off (PTO)Paid Company Holidays (x6)Opportunities for professional growth and career development
