The Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a full-time Research Technician position for Biomarker Research Technician. The Biomarker Research Technician will assist with the performance of clinical research studies at the Center for Autism and Developing Brain (CADB), located in White Plains, NY. The incumbent will be responsible for assisting with the collection, pre/processing, and storage of multimodal biomarker data, including EEG/ERP/ECG, eye-tracking, and related psychophysiological measures. The incumbent will also be responsible for coordinating the mail-in process of deployment and retrieval of wearable devices. This role supports research studies involving children and adolescents with developmental disabilities and requires close collaboration with faculty investigators, clinical staff, research participants and their families. The incumbent will receive specialized training and ongoing supervision from faculty experts in EEG/ERP/ECG, eye-tracking, and sleep health and support high-quality data collection and post collection quality control. The position also involves supporting participant engagement by administering individualized protocols, communication supports, and behavior plans to facilitate successful biomarker assessments and retention.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for assisting with the collection of biomarker data (EEG/ERP/ECG, eye-tracking, and related measures) with children and adolescents with developmental disabilities, including participant preparation, equipment setup, calibration, and in-person and remote real-time monitoring of data quality.
- Assist with the processing, labeling, organization, quality control and securely store biomarker data in accordance with study protocols, IRB requirements, and institutional data security standards.
- Work closely with faculty investigators specializing in EEG/ERP and eye-tracking to receive training, troubleshooting technical issues, update software and hardware, and ensure consistent, high-quality biomarker collection.
- Collaborate with a Behavior Specialist and work under the supervision of clinical leadership to administer testing protocols, social stories, communication tools, and individualized behavior plans to facilitate successful biomarker assessments.
- Support participants and families throughout research visits using developmentally appropriate, trauma-informed, and participant-centered approaches.
- Support participants and families with troubleshooting remote data collection via wearable devices.
- Travel with faculty investigators to family meetings or off-site locations to collect multimodal biomarkers and other assessment measures, which may include local travel, as well as evening or weekend work based on participant availability.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in neuroscience, cognitive science, biomedical engineering, psychology, public health, or a related field OR a combination of education and relevant research experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience working with children and/or adolescents in research, clinical, educational, or therapeutic setting
Preferred Qualifications:
- One (1) or more years of hands-on experience conducting EEG/ERP/ECG, eye-tracking, or other psychophysiological or biomarker-based data collection conducted in-person or remotely.
- Prior experience working with children and/or adolescents with neurodevelopmental or developmental disabilities in a research or clinical setting
- Demonstrated familiarity with IRB-regulated research environments and human subjects research compliance
- Familiarity with data entry software and willingness to learn basic scientific computing tools (e.g. Python or R) for data processing and organization.
- Demonstrated experience following structured research or clinical protocols and accurately documenting procedures and outcomes
- Ability to learn and independently operate technical research equipment (e.g., EEG, eye-tracking, or similar data collection systems) after training
- Ability to work effectively with participants with developmental disabilities using developmentally appropriate communication strategies
