Emergency Department RN

Job Summary:

The Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN) provides expert nursing care to patients presenting with acute illnesses, injuries, and emergencies in a fast-paced rural hospital setting. This role involves rapid patient assessment, prioritization, collaboration with interdisciplinary teams, and adapting care plans to ensure optimal patient outcomes in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom. The RN must demonstrate strong clinical judgment, effective communication, and the ability to work independently in a dynamic emergency environment. Responsibilities:

• Assess and prioritize emergency patients to deliver comprehensive nursing care.
• Collaborate closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, EMS personnel, and inpatient teams to coordinate patient-centered care.
• Manage multiple patient needs simultaneously and adapt quickly to changing clinical situations.
• Document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately in compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
• Maintain adherence to evidence-based emergency nursing practices and safety protocols.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Current Vermont RN License or Compact Multi-State RN License.
• Current BLS, PALS, and ACLS certifications.
• Minimum of three years Emergency Department RN experience.
• Ability to work independently and exercise sound clinical judgment in a rural emergency department.
• Experience caring for a broad range of patient populations and emergency conditions.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) certification.
• Familiarity with Meditech electronic medical record system or ability to quickly learn new systems.

Special Considerations:

• Work is performed in a busy, board-certified physician-staffed rural emergency department.
• Reliable personal transportation is required due to rural location and lack of public transit.
• Flu vaccination is mandatory for all staff without exceptions.
• Credentialing documentation must be submitted at least five business days prior to start date.

Scheduling:

• Flexible shifts in a 24/7 emergency department setting, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Shift assignments may vary based on department needs and traveler availability.
