Job Title: Superintendent, Pipeline Utilities

Employment Type: Full Time   

Location: Goldsboro, NC    

Pay: $ DOE per year  

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7am-5pm

Job Summary:          

The Superintendent, Pipeline Utilities is responsible for the day-to-day field management and execution of pipeline and underground utility construction projects from mobilization through completion. This role directs field crews, foremen, subcontractors, equipment, materials, and site activities to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with plans, specifications, permits, quality standards, and contract requirements. The Superintendent works closely with Project Managers, engineers, surveyors, inspectors, utility owners, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to coordinate construction activities, resolve field issues, and maintain project performance.

Key Responsibilities: 

·  Direct daily field operations for pipeline and underground utility projects, including mobilization, installation, testing, restoration, punch list, and closeout activities.

·  Plan and sequence work activities, establishing daily and weekly priorities based on project schedules, site conditions, manpower, equipment, materials, and subcontractor availability.

·  Supervise foremen, operators, laborers, subcontractors, and other field personnel; monitor productivity, workmanship, attendance, and adherence to project requirements.

·  Manage construction activities involving water mains, sanitary sewer, stormwater, force mains, ductile iron, PVC, HDPE, steel and other pipeline systems, as applicable.

·  Oversee excavation, trenching, shoring, dewatering, bedding, pipe installation, manholes, structures, tie-ins, testing, backfill, compaction, paving, and surface restoration.

·  Coordinate utility relocations, crossings, connections, shutdowns, bypass operations, and work around existing utilities and infrastructure.

·  Review and interpret construction drawings, specifications, profiles, utility plans, schedules, permits, traffic-control plans, and contract requirements.

·  Coordinate with Project Managers, engineers, surveyors, inspectors, utility representatives, subcontractors, and owners to resolve RFIs, design conflicts, constructability issues, and field changes.

·  Manage site logistics, including equipment utilization, material deliveries, staging, access, traffic control, excavation support, dewatering, and work-zone organization.

·  Monitor project progress, production quantities, labor, equipment utilization, and resource requirements; communicate schedule impacts, delays, and recovery plans to project management.

·   Enforce OSHA, DOT, environmental, excavation/trenching, confined-space, traffic-control, and project-specific safety requirements.

Required Qualifications:   

·  High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred.

·  7–10+ years of experience in pipeline, underground utility, heavy civil, or infrastructure construction, with progressive field leadership experience.

·  Previous experience as a Superintendent, General Superintendent, Foreman, or comparable field leadership role.

·  Strong knowledge of pipeline and underground utility construction methods, including excavation, trench safety, shoring, dewatering, pipe installation, testing, backfill, and restoration.

·  Experience with water, sewer, stormwater, force main, ductile iron, PVC, HDPE, steel, or other utility pipeline systems.

·  Ability to read and interpret civil, utility, pipeline, profile, grading, structural, and traffic-control drawings and specifications.

Preferred Qualifications:  

Familiarity with construction management and field-reporting platforms such as Procore, Bluebeam, HCSS, HeavyJob, Primavera P6, or Microsoft Project.
