Transportation Manager II

Job Title: Transportation Manager II Department: Supply Chain Country: United States of America | State/Province: Massachusetts | City: Westfield | Full/Part Time: Full time Job Summary: Under general supervision, this position is responsible for the direct driver management and supervision of a midsize driver count, ensuring safe and timely service movement of freight, load assignment, and providing best‑in‑class customer service. The manager ensures compliance with DOT regulations, maintains driver and company compliance, and works with internal and external contacts to plan, route, monitor, and deliver freight and loads. The role requires flexibility across day, night, and weekend shifts to meet operational demands. Key Responsibilities Build and maintain positive professional relationships with drivers and safety personnel to minimize turnover and maximize productivity. Fill in for absent or unavailable personnel and lead special projects related to optimizing fleet operations and achieving profitability. Train and orient drivers and employees, including assistance with internal and third‑party customer systems. Conduct analysis of fleet operations and profitability, recommend continuous improvement, determine and measure key performance indicators, and create, maintain, and present customer‑specific reporting and financial analysis through face‑to‑face and/or virtual interactions. Manage inventory, assets, customer pools, and assignment of drivers to balance equipment in the market. Perform administrative duties such as payroll, driver counseling, accident reviews, filing and documentation, resolving pay issues, invoicing, and/or creating operational or financial reports. Manage yard operations: inspect equipment, replace parts, coordinate repairs, and schedule preventative maintenance services with maintenance to ensure safety‑related mechanical issues are fixed for account equipment. Work with drivers, customers, and company personnel to resolve service issues, routing and/or planning challenges, mechanical problems, and accessorial pay‑related issues as they arise, including on‑call support. Maintain the company's safety culture by delivering daily driver safety messages, monthly safety briefings, quarterly training, annual reviews, and enforcing policies to meet DOT compliance and safety requirements. Assign loads, plan, route, and monitor freight movement to provide safe, on‑time service, manage exceptions, and adjust driver ETA based on pickup and delivery schedules and environmental factors. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma/GED and 2–3 years of experience in transportation/logistics, business administration, account management, and/or equivalent military experience. Ability to work across multiple shifts, including nights and/or weekends if needed. Strong professional communication skills applied internally and externally. Experience establishing and maintaining healthy working relationships. Experience fostering strong customer relationships through delivery of commitments, open communication, and ongoing feedback/improvement. Ability to process information with high accuracy. Accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment. Proficiency in Microsoft Programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook). Ability to manage multiple competing priorities. Consistently travel to account and customer locations. Adaptability to a dynamic work environment and shifting priorities and directives. Experience holding people accountable and conducting difficult conversations. Ability to perform in a stressful and high‑pressure work environment. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Transportation/Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field. 1–2 years of experience in transportation/logistics, business administration, account management, and/or equivalent military experience. Compensation Starting pay within the specified range may be affected by skills, education, experience, geography, and other qualifications of the successful candidate. The position may be eligible for an annual bonus and incentives based on profitability or volumes, in accordance with the Company’s bonus and incentive plans.
