Relocation Assistance (based on eligibility) Occupation Summary This position collaborates with healthcare providers by performing a variety of clerical duties to support patient care. Duties include greeting patients and visitors, answering the telephone, responding to patient requests, accessing the electronic medical record (EMR), scheduling appointments and providing general clerical support as needed by the department. The incumbent consistently exhibits excellent customer service skills. Work Performed Answer patient signals and relay request to appropriate individual. Place calls for consultations as needed. Use manual backup system as needed. Assemble and maintain patient charts from admission through discharge. Prepare and upload paper documents into the EMR. Navigate EMR, access patient information, generate reports, schedule appointments and manage task list. Use technology to coordinate patient transport. Assign nursing staff to communication systems. Assist new staff with clerical duties. Order supplies, maintain inventory, replenish as necessary. Copy, file, mail and/or distribute materials. Maintain records as required by the unit. Schedule maintenance in automated system. Generate reports and participate in review of activities and processes for area of work. Assist in implementing changes for continual improvement. Exhibit professional communication skill when answering the telephone and interacting with patients, visitors and staff. Round and greet patients each shift, explain role. Round and greet patients, visitors, physicians and employees pleasantly, refer to appropriate areas. Answer phones, screen and refer calls, deliver messages and provide information. Assist unit management in tracking inventory and maintaining supplies. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of HIS procedures and manual procedures when system is down. Successful completion of TJC and other regulatory requirements within the probationary period. Telephone etiquette. General clerical practices and procedures. Spelling and medical terminology. Ability to apply departmental rules and regulations for verifying, processing and maintaining records. Organize and set priorities. Operate computer terminal and other office equipment. Write legibly. Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Deal tactfully and courteously with public. Establish and maintain effective relationships with other personnel. Education Graduation from high school or GED; or an equivalent combination of related education and experience. Experience Six (6) months of work experience related to customer service.
