Job Summary: The Weld Tank Test Operator is a semi-skilled position that performs inspection of welded tank parts for leaks and/or visually flawed welds. He/she may conduct some basic welding (the joining of metals by applying intense heat) and cutting tasks using gas and/or electric welding equipment to repair leaks/weld flaws in tanks. The Weld Tank Test Operator receives specific work assignments under basic supervision and resolves most problems without supervisory assistance.

Position Requirements:

Key skills, abilities and knowledge:

Basic knowledge of standard welding practices and methods including:

Inert gas welding (e.g., TIG, MIG).

Use of soap/water solution testing for leaks similar to gas pipe seal testing.

Strong ability to read and understand welding specifications, shop drawings, and blueprints.

Knowledge of properties of welding materials, structural metals and related items.

Skill in using and maintaining welding equipment and related tools of the trade.

Knowledge of occupational hazards and the ability to follow safe work practices.

Ability to communicate and work effectively with others.

Experiential: One or more years of general welding experience.

Certificates, Licenses: Fork lift operator certification is preferred.
