Meteorologist

Meteorologist, The Dallas Morning News Lead newsroom efforts to provide meaningful weather information that helps residents stay safe and plan their daily activities. The meteorologist writes daily forecasts, provides science expertise, and explains complex weather concepts in an engaging tone. The role includes video, graphics, social media, and writing across digital platforms. Responsibilities Prepare forecasts and write stories from satellite, radar, and model data. Report on breaking weather news as it happens. Provide context around major events via next‑day stories or videos. Be an ambassador for the newsroom’s expanded weather reporting. Contribute to products such as newsletters and "live updates". Collaborate on weather graphics, maps, tools, and charts. Provide support, consultation, and expertise to reporters, editors, and leadership during major weather events and complex climate stories. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or higher in meteorology or a related field. Experience communicating complex weather events to the general public. Experience writing in the Area Forecast Discussion style. Ability to explain science clearly, prioritizing public safety during severe events. Experience publishing across channels: social media, newsletters, news stories. Background in journalism, blogging, or scientific writing. Experience with audio or video reporting (plus). AMS certification (plus). NWS experience (plus). Requirements Full‑time position. Weekend and evening work may be required as news warrants. Minimum of two years on a forecasting team. Candidate must be based in the Dallas‑Fort Worth area or willing to relocate. Valid driver’s license and registered vehicle to travel to assignments. #J-18808-Ljbffr
