DIRECTOR, GLOBAL MARKET ACCESS

SUMMARY:

Ionis is seeking a strategic and collaborative Director, Global Market Access to help shape development programs through strategic pricing and market access requirements across select assets in our pipeline for US and other key global markets. This individual will also closely partner with the US market access team, Ionis’ ex-US commercialization partners and cross-functional leaders across Ionis.

This position will report to the Head of Global Market Access and will lead and coordinate the development of value, market access, and pricing strategies for Ionis’ pipeline products. The position is expected to start in January 2027.

WORK LOCATION: This role may be based in one of the following arrangements:

• In-office at Ionis headquarters in Carlsbad, California (Hybrid Optional)
• In-office in Boston, Massachusetts (Hybrid Optional)
• Remote, with travel of up to 15% of working days

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Director, Global Market Access will:

• Lead the development of asset-specific global market access strategies, leveraging personal knowledge and payer insights, to ensure robust and validated pricing and reimbursement assumptions
• Drive integration of payer requirements and preferences into clinical and evidence generation plans, partnering with cross-functional colleagues to optimize development programs
• Assess the pricing and reimbursement potential in the US across all channels and other key global markets to support business needs and identify opportunities for value demonstration
• Lead scientific advice consultations to ensure design and endpoints provide required evidence for payer and HTA submissions
• Generate payer value propositions, global value dossiers, JCA submissions, objection handlers, and global pricing policies
• Collaborate with functions such as Commercial, Medical Affairs, HEOR, Clinical Development, Portfolio Planning, Market Insights, and Regulatory to ensure understanding of global payer markets and emerging pricing and access evolutions and to drive new processes
• Manage external partners and vendors to conduct market research on the access landscape, payer unmet needs, current standard of care, value proposition, pricing, and access
• Serve as a strategic pricing and market access advisor to Business Development for in-license and out-licensing opportunities

REQUIREMENTS:

• Expertise : Deep knowledge of global market access landscapes, including drivers of payer decision making, HTAs, pricing, contracting and tendering, relevance and importance of HEOR evidence, policies and regulations, etc. and differences by markets
• Experience : Experience in developing market access strategies, pricing and access assumptions, and payer value propositions, and in informing development programs to optimize access in the US and other key global markets
• Strategic : Knowledgeable about key healthcare and payer policies and proactive in adapting to evolving policies, processes, competitive landscapes, and data and able to integrate perspectives from different stakeholders
• Communication : Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts clearly and persuasively, tailored to relevant audiences
• Collaboration and interpersonal skills : Strong leadership and communication skills that can foster positive engagement with cross-functional partners and influence decision making
• Bias to action : Innate curiosity to learn, with strong personal drive, self-starter initiative, and results-oriented spirit to drive to recommendations and creative solutions
• Agility : Experience in managing and leading multiple projects across different programs and therapeutic areas
• Education: Undergraduate bachelor’s degree required, preferred in science with at least 15 years of experience in Pricing and Market Access OR science-based post-graduate degree or MBA with at least 12 years of experience in Pricing and Market Access
