Summary The Millis Companies is seeking a Vice President of Business Development leads and scales the Millis Companies business development function across all Texas core markets (Houston, Dallas, and Central Texas) and drives the company’s expansion into new markets. The role owns the private-sector deal origination pipeline, including Design-Build origination, and is accountable for the performance of the BD team, the achievement of revenue targets, and the company’s growth toward $500M in multi-state revenue. Our preferred location for this role would be based from our Houston, Texas office located at: 931 Pheasant Valley Dr, Missouri City, TX 77489. We are also open to candidates that would be willing to work from our Dallas office located at: 7300 State Highway 121 SB, Suite 640 McKinney, TX 75070. Essential Duties and Responsibilities BD Team Leadership Lead all BD Reps across Houston, Dallas, and Central Texas, plus future markets Set territory revenue targets and hold each rep accountable to weekly activity goals and quarterly origination goals. Conduct weekly 1:1 pipeline and coaching sessions with each rep, serving as their primary escalation path and deal-strategy resource. Build and sustain a proactive pipeline culture across all territories. Coach, develop, and where necessary upgrade BD talent to meet the demands of a scaling organization. Revenue & Pipeline Accountability Own achievement of BD-sourced revenue targets, ramping BD-sourced private deals toward 50%+ of each territory’s pipeline. Ensure each territory always maintains 8 plus active bidding opportunities, with a minimum of 12 opportunities originated per rep per quarter. Review pipeline health weekly and report BD performance, forecast, and market intelligence with the CEO. Own Design-Build origination with formal rep-level targets and a repeatable, BD-driven pipeline. New Market Expansion Personally own new market development until in-market reps are hired. Make two market trips per quarter per state, leveraging existing national-developer relationships for warm introductions. Coordinate expansion-market marketing campaigns with Marketing on campaign timing with market trips for maximum impact. Trigger in-market BD hires only when ops capacity is confirmed. Go/No-Go & Estimating Alignment Enforce the private side go/no-go process and align with others on public go/no-go criteria. Coordinate with Estimating to protect estimating capacity, ensuring BD surfaces qualified opportunities with adequate lead time. Ensure BD provides competitive intelligence to estimating who else is bidding, client price signals, and whether an award is relationship-driven or price-driven. Hold reps accountable for the quality and timeliness of deal qualification before work reaches estimating. Qualifications And Requirements Bachelor's degree; MBA helpful but not required. 6 plus years of successful sales or business development leadership as a VP of Business Development and Sales or similar role. A proven track record leading and coaching distributed multi-market teams to revenue targets. Demonstrated success originating private-sector B2B deals and managing complex, relationship-driven sales cycles. Experience in construction, commercial services, or capital-goods industries strongly preferred; residential/commercial construction, landscape construction or design-build experience a plus. Experience enforcing CRM discipline and pipeline forecasting (Buildr or similar) Ability to establish and manage executive-level developer, general contractor, and landscape-architect relationships. Ability to work effectively in a multi-entity, matrixed environment. Willingness to travel across Texas and to expansion markets estimated at 25%+.
