Founding HR Generalist / People Operations Location: San Francisco, CA (Dogpatch) Work Model: On-site (5 days/week) Employment Type: Full-time Salary: $140,000–$185,000 Base + Equity Visa Sponsorship: Not Available ABOUT THE ROLE Giga is hiring a Founding HR Generalist / People Operations professional with 4–8 years of experience to build and own the HR function from the ground up. This is a rare opportunity to become the company's first dedicated HR hire at a rapidly growing AI startup that recently raised $61M Series A and serves enterprise customers including DoorDash. You’ll establish scalable HR processes, own the employee lifecycle, ensure compliance, and help shape company culture as the organization continues to scale. RESPONSIBILITIES Own the complete employee lifecycle including onboarding, offboarding, role changes, offer letters, and HR documentation. Administer and maintain Rippling and other HR systems. Ensure compliance with California employment laws. Manage employee benefits, health plans, 401(k), and broker relationships. Partner with Finance on payroll processing and accuracy. Build scalable onboarding and performance management processes. Become the trusted HR partner across the organization. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE 4–8 years of HR Generalist / People Operations experience. Experience as the first or founding HR hire at a venture-backed startup that raised $10M+. Experience building People Operations from scratch. Broad HR ownership beyond recruiting or a single specialty. Strong California employment law knowledge. Payroll and benefits administration experience. Hands‑on experience with Rippling or similar HRIS (Workday, Gusto, etc.). Bachelor's degree from a reputable university. TECH STACK Rippling HRIS Google Workspace REQUIREMENTS Must be based in or able to commute to San Francisco. Must work onsite 5 days per week. Existing U.S. work authorization required. No visa sponsorship. PREFERRED BACKGROUND Venture-backed technology startups. Experience designing onboarding, performance management, and People Operations processes. Long-term tenure in previous roles (3+ years preferred). AVOID CANDIDATES WHO Come from non-tech industries. Have only specialized HR experience (Recruiting, L&D, Compensation only).
