Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor of Emergency and Critical Care

University of Minnesota | College of Veterinary Medicine The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences invites applications for a full-time, primarily clinical faculty position in Small Animal Emergency and Critical Care (ECC) Medicine. Join a robust team of four full-time criticalists, residents, and interns in our state-of-the-art Veterinary Medical Center (VMC). Position Overview As a Criticalist at the University of Minnesota, you will play a vital role in providing specialty-level patient care while shaping the next generation of veterinary professionals. This role is designed for a collaborative clinician who excels in high-pressure environments and values a healthy, professional workplace culture. You will balance clinical excellence with didactic teaching and outreach, contributing to the department’s goal of providing cutting‑edge medical services and student-centered education. Work Environment In-person clinical service at the St. Paul Campus Key Responsibilities Clinical Service & Teaching (75%) Lead Care: Supervise and manage inpatient and outpatient ECC cases, providing expert diagnosis and treatment. Mentor: Supervise and mentor interns and ECC residents through case management, rounds, board review, and journal club. Educate: Provide hands‑on clinical instruction and evaluation for veterinary students. Collaborate: Support VMC operations by sharing weekend/holiday shifts and providing telephone consultations to referring veterinarians. Didactic Teaching, Research & Outreach (25%) Professional Veterinary Education: Deliver student-centered, active learning instruction across all four years of the veterinary curriculum. Collaborative Research: While not required, you are encouraged to engage in clinical trials or collaborative research with residents and Health Sciences faculty. Service: Participate in departmental meetings, collegiate committees, and professional organizations to support the university’s mission. Required DVM/VMD or equivalent degree. Successful completion of an ECC residency (ACVECC or ECVECC) by start date. Eligibility for, or certification by, ACVECC or ECVECC. Minnesota State Veterinary Licensure (or eligibility to secure it by start date). Preferred Demonstrated excellence in clinical skills and interpersonal communication.
