Job Description
The Senior Compliance Consultant will provide advanced regulatory and compliance support to the BLG business line with a focus on financial services regulatory frameworks, risk management, and internal controls. This role partners closely with business leaders to design, implement, and enhance the company’s compliance program, ensuring that products, services, and operations comply with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies.
\nThe position is best suited to a professional with deep experience in broker-dealer and investment adviser compliance, including FINRA and SEC requirements, strong analytical skills, and the ability to provide practical, risk-based guidance in a fast-moving environment.
\n \nKey Responsibilities
\n \nClient Relationship Management
\n• Develop and maintain trusted, long-term relationships with consulting clients, serving as their primary point of contact and coordinating the timely delivery of compliance guidance, services, and follow-up.
\n• When assigned, serve as a client’s outsourced Chief Compliance Officer, providing compliance leadership, overseeing the client’s compliance program, advising senior management, and supporting regulatory obligations and examinations.
\n• Work effectively with individuals across all levels of a client’s organizational structure, building cooperative relationships with executives, business leaders, compliance personnel, operations teams, and other stakeholders.
\n• Demonstrate strong interpersonal, collaboration, and client-service skills, including the ability to listen, communicate clearly, manage expectations, navigate differing perspectives, and foster practical solutions.
\n \nProgram Design & Governance
\n• Support the development, implementation, and ongoing enhancement of the enterprise compliance management system (CMS), including policies, procedures, and controls.
\n• Participate in risk assessments to identify, evaluate, and prioritize regulatory and compliance risks; recommend mitigation strategies aligned with risk appetite and regulatory expectations.
\n• Assist in developing and maintaining compliance frameworks aligned with applicable SEC and FINRA regulations and guidance, including broker-dealer and investment adviser requirements, supervisory obligations, books and records, communications, conflicts of interest, and applicable anti-money laundering requirements.
\n• Help define and monitor key compliance metrics and contribute to regular reporting for senior management and governance bodies (e.g., Compliance Committee, Board, or equivalent).
\n \nAdvisory & Business Partnering
\n• Serve as a subject matter resource to business units on regulatory and policy requirements for new products, services, marketing campaigns, and operational changes.
\n• Review business processes and customer journeys (onboarding, servicing, collections, complaints, etc.) for compliance with applicable laws and internal standards.
\n• Provide clear, practical guidance on compliance issues, escalating material risks to senior Compliance leadership.
\n \nMonitoring, Testing & Issue Management
\n• Plan and perform compliance monitoring and testing activities to assess adherence to regulatory requirements and internal policies.
\n• Document findings, assess root causes, and work with business partners to design and implement corrective and preventive actions.
\n• Track and validate remediation, ensuring timely closure and sustainable control improvements.
\nRegulatory Change Management
\n• Monitor relevant SEC and FINRA rulemaking, guidance, examination priorities, enforcement developments, and other industry changes affecting broker-dealers and investment advisers.
\n• Help maintain a regulatory inventory and assess the applicability and impact of changes on business operations and products.
\n• Assist in implementing regulatory changes through updates to policies, procedures, controls, training, and systems.
\n \nTraining & Culture of Compliance
\n• Assist in the development and delivery of compliance training programs tailored to different business functions and risk areas.
\n• Promote a culture of integrity, compliance, and risk awareness through ongoing communication, guidance, and engagement with employees and management.
\nRegulatory Interactions & Examinations (if applicable)
\n• Support preparations for regulatory examinations, inquiries, or audits, including document production, data gathering, and coordination with business stakeholders.
\n• Assist with responses to regulatory and supervisory requests, in coordination with Legal and Compliance leadership.
\n \nDocumentation & Recordkeeping
\n• Ensure that compliance activities, decisions, and risk assessments are appropriately documented and retained in accordance with applicable legal, regulatory, and policy requirements.
\n• Contributes to the development and maintenance of compliance manuals, policy repositories, and procedure documentation.
\n \nQualifications
\n \nEducation
\n• Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in law, business, finance, public policy, or a related field preferred (e.g., JD, MBA, or LLM).
\n• Relevant professional certifications a plus (e.g., CAMS, CRCM, CCEP, CIPP, or similar, depending on the company’s regulatory focus).
\n \nExperience
\n• 7+ years of relevant experience in regulatory compliance, legal, risk management, or internal audit roles involving broker-dealers, investment advisers, or related financial services consulting, with substantial exposure to FINRA and SEC requirements.
\n• Demonstrated experience designing or executing components of a compliance program (policy development, monitoring/testing, training, risk assessments, regulatory change management, or advisory).
\nKnowledge & Skills
\n• Strong understanding of FINRA and SEC regulatory frameworks applicable to broker-dealers and investment advisers, including:
\n• FINRA rules governing supervision, communications with the public, licensing and registration, outside business activities, private securities transactions, books and records, and anti-money laundering programs,
\n• SEC requirements under the Investment Advisers Act of 1940 and applicable rules, including fiduciary obligations, Form ADV disclosures, custody, marketing, compliance programs, codes of ethics, and books and records,
\n• SEC and FINRA examination, reporting, recordkeeping, cybersecurity, privacy, and regulatory-filing expectations applicable to the firm and its clients.
\n• Ability to interpret and apply laws and regulations to concrete business processes and technology-enabled products.
\n• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
\n• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex regulatory concepts in clear, business-friendly language.
\n• Demonstrated ability to build collaborative working relationships across functions (e.g., Legal, Risk, Operations, Product, Engineering, Audit).
\n• High integrity and sound judgment, with a risk-based and practical mindset.
