Description: Pediatric and neonatal experience is preferred, as the therapist will be the sole RT on the shift. Typical patient interactions range from 4 to 6 per shift. The emergency department can have a variety of cases, from neonates to routine breathing treatments. The therapist will cover the emergency department, medical-surgical units, EKGs, and outpatient clinics performing pediatric nasal suction and Holter monitoring. Essential duties include drawing and analyzing ABGs, suggesting care, providing breathing treatments, managing BiPAP and CPAP, and ventilator settings for transfers. The therapist will assist with intubations and utilize different types of respiratory interventions, including LMAs for neonates. There is a manager available during weekdays, and a charge RT on duty at sister facilities to provide resources. The traveler may be the only RT in-house during certain shifts. The equipment utilized includes Drager ventilators and Hamilton transport vents. Shifts are 12 hours long with a central scheduler to assist with self-scheduling. Weekends will be worked every other weekend or less frequently. The therapist may be called to assist when needed during their scheduled shifts. Scrubs can be of any color. Unit-specific orientation will include 2 to 3 shifts based on experience. The charting system used is EPIC. This position operates within an acute care setting.
