Campus Safety Officer

TITLE: Campus Safety Officer REPORTS TO: Safety Operations Manager SCHEDULE: Full time, 40 hours per week. Wednesday - Sunday4:00pm - 12:00am. Hours assigned to maintain 24/7 coverageincluding holidays. This position is considered *EssentialPersonnel. Schedule may vary according to departmental and Academyneeds. WAGE RANGE: $24.40- $30.00 based on relevant experience andeducation. Pay Group Type Status Fiscal Year Weeks Class Department Location BiWkly (Hourly) Regular Full-time 52 weeks Staff Campus Safety On-Campus Position Purpose Provides safety services that assist the campus community inmaintaining order and/or improving the personal safety of thestudents, faculty, staff, and guests and ensures the security ofAcademy property. Job Responsibilities Provides high-level, professional, and courteous servicethrough interaction with the Academy community via personalcontact, telephone service, and timely radio dispatchservices. Immediately responds to all calls for emergency service ordispatches other necessary Academy personnel or equipment andExeter police, fire, and emergency medical personnel. Answers incoming calls on a multi-line switchboard, the CampusSafety phone line as well as the elevator emergency phone and takesthe appropriate information and/or makes proper connections. Immediately makes necessary notifications to the Academycommunity via several Emergency Notification Systems as well as toa supervisor and/or key Academy personnel in the event of majorincidents that occur on and/or around campus. Conducts vigilant patrols of Academy property to ensure a safeand secure campus. Investigates incidents as assigned and completes detailed andaccurate reports both verbally and in writing. Ensures the safety and security of students, faculty, and staffby identifying and responding to hazards in a prompt and proficientmanner. Inspects all campus buildings, doors, gates, windows, andpoints of entry to Academy property to ensure that unauthorizedpersons are not able to gain entry to the premises. Responds to inquiries and furnishes information on campusactivities, organizations, key personnel, administrative/academicoffices, and locations or transfers callers to offices that canprovide information. Examines all fire extinguishers on a monthly basis to ensurereadiness and compliance with state and local fireregulations. Assists faculty and administration in enforcing Academy safetyrules, regulations, and policies. Maintains a pleasant and professional rapport with Academydepartments and personnel as well as with the Town of Exeter andother outside agencies. Maintains a thorough daily log of activities and assortedreports for each assigned shift. Monitors Academy property for safety hazards and reports allviolations or hazards. May handle hazardous materials in the work area and will berequired to wear personal protective equipment as appropriate forthe work assigned. Adheres to the established policies and guidelines of theAcademy as well as the General Orders of the Office of CampusSafety Services. Performs other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Competencies Ability to prepare and effectively present both oral andwritten information concerning activities and operations tointernal and external constituents. Respect for diversity of identities and experiences, anorientation toward equity and inclusion, and cultural competency inall aspects of Academy life. Knowledge of emergency management concepts and practices toinclude prevention/mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery. Knowledge of federal and state codes and regulations relatingto safety and security, fire codes, and emergency management andcompliance. Knowledge of building/campus emergency procedures including butnot limited to evacuations, fire drills, illness, and life safetyequipment. Strong interpersonal skills with ability to develop andmaintain collegial relationships. Excellent communication (written and verbal) skills. Demonstrated ability to work with students by building trustand credibility. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills as well as astrong customer focus. A strict adherence to confidential policies is required. Ability to work independently and handle multiple prioritiesand deadlines simultaneously. Proficient in MS Office. Willingness and ability to learn additional applications asneeded. High degree of organizational skills with the ability to beflexible and multi-task with accuracy. Ability to follow verbal and written directions, maintain aprofessional demeanor and restraint at all times, including amidststressful situations. Direct/Indirect Reports None. Position Requirements Education High school diploma or GED required. Associate’s degree preferred. Completion of CPR/AED and First Aid certification trainingwithin 60 days of hire. Experience Must be 21 years of age or older. Valid driver’s license required. Law Enforcement, First Responder, Military experience preferredbut not essential. Customer service experience desirable. Experience in an institutional or campus settingpreferred. Experience working with adolescents in an educational settingpreferred. Physical Requirements Physical demands are in excess of those for sedentary work andwill require the ability to remain standing for extended periodsoftime, go up and down flights of steps, lift and push heavy objectsas well as stoop, squat, bend, kneel, crouch, and lift. Ability to lift and transport up to 50lbs withoutassistance. Additional Requirements Successfully complete upon hire a criminal background check(reviewed every 5 years). Clean Driving record upon hire (reviewed annually). *Essential personnel are required to report to or remain atwork if instructed directly by designated personnel duringemergency events or inclement weather. Must consistently wear assigned uniform and equipment andadhere to the appearance guidelines. Maintain safety and security physical requirements.
