JobID: 3257 Position Type: Administration/Assistant Director Date Posted: 12/6/2025 Location: Information Technology Date Available: Open Until Filled Closing Date: Open Until Filled TITLE: ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY REPORTS TO: DIRECTOR OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 MONTHS SALARY RANGE: SUPERVISOR SALARY SCHEDULE D $76,679 - $108,098 EMPLOYER/EMPLOYEE PAID $64,555 - $91,006 EMPLOYER PAID PERS BENEFITS: Nevada State Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) Employer paid Medical, Dental, Vision and Life Insurance No State Tax FLSA STATUS EXEMPT SUMMARY OF POSITION Supports the Director of Information Technology in performing work of moderate to considerable difficulty in the planning, organization, administration, coordination and management of the Information Technology Department including the district office computer system and related business office functions; responsible for the day-to-day operation and supervision of the District's Information Technology Department. RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - Assist with planning, organizing and directing the activities of the District Office computer systems including the District's network. Serve as system administrator in system software configuration, system access, system performance evaluation, updating the operating system and purchase software as needed to enhance the capability of the system; provide technical assistance to district office staff in the utilization of the computer system.
- Marking Buried Fiber Optic Cable throughout Douglas County. Douglas County School District owns buried fiber optic cable throughout the county. Whenever someone needs to dig on their property, they call 811 for public utility marking; the Technology department will receive a ticket that must be answered extremely quickly.
- Rostering Students in their respective online courses; using various tools to allow Single-Sign-On access for students and following DCSD protocols for allowing/denying: apps, extensions. This will be in coordination with the curriculum department and technology director. Such integration software include (but are not limited to): Clever, ClassLink, Infinite Campus, etc.
- Security Cameras - Some schools may have old security cameras that may need to be upgraded. Many existing outdoor cameras have yellowing plastic domes (from sun damage). The department has begun the replacements; however, this process is still on-going. Some schools have a very limited number of cameras, and the technology department has been working hard to install new cameras at those locations. This project will take many months to complete; and will take time and effort to maintain.
- The Technology Department utilizes LineWize for network monitoring and filtering. The individual in this role will assist with alerts and trouble-tickets.
- Assist with technology support for School Board Meetings
- Assist with installation of computer/network equipment
- Assist with the administration of many Virtual Machines, including in a VSphere Environment
- Assist with on-prem VOIP pbx and integrated Bell/Intercom Systems
- Handheld VHF Radio Support and Programming
- Assist with annually completing the District's E-rate application in addition to various State/Federal/other funding opportunities.
- Assist with planning, organizing and directing the Information Technology Department; supervise and coordinate department services and activities; project revenues and expenditures in the formulation of the operating budget through the use of computerized software; supervise, train and evaluate assigned personnel; develop and revise department procedures and processes; develop and maintain an efficient department environment through computerization.
- Assist with reviewing district-wide user needs and recommend and implement procedures to meet those needs; respond to user requests by formatting and generating standardized and specialized reports.
- Assist with conferring with individual users to determine potential utilization of the specific computer system and available software; investigate the abilities of the system and make recommendations for increased utilization.
- Assist with training end users on the input and usage of software and operating systems.
- Assist with performing software maintenance including loading and unloading the system and reconfiguring as necessary; perform system maintenance and backups.
- Assist with analyzing and troubleshooting software problems and differentiate between minor and major hardware repair needs; Assist in solving existing problems and needs; determine future requirements of personnel and materials.
- Assist in the planning and organization of computerized accounting systems and procedures.
- Assist with managing District e-mail systems and accounts and the District's internet access.
- Support District Student Records Software.
- Initiate and recommend to the Director of Information Technology (or their designee) procedures for regular financial reporting and maximum utilization of services that are available from the electronic data processing equipment.
- Assist with inspecting jobs in progress and when completed; assure compliance with specifications and acceptable standards; resolve conflicts and disputes.
- Serve as liaison for the Information Technology Department with other district personnel and outside agencies; resolve complaints; review significant and controversial issues with the Director of Business Services.
- Assist with advising on and establishing work priorities; make and review estimates on installation, maintenance and report of district-wide computer needs and services.
- Keep informed on the latest technology; maintain awareness of new and revised technological hardware and software.
- Consult with administrators relative to IT needs and services.
- Assist with preparing (or approving) specifications for new or upgraded information technology hardware and software. Review, order and purchase materials and equipment.
- Assist with conducting regular staff meetings to brief employees and discuss priorities and issues, and to monitor the status of active projects.Provide the leadership necessary for a productive and positive department environment.Develop team skills and strategies for department members.
- Assist with supervising preparation of all correspondence relating to the Information Technology Department; oversee the maintenance of department records and reports; prepare periodic reports of department activity; organize, prepare and present department agenda matters.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Perform other related duties as assigned. WORK CONTACTS Frequent contact with administrators, department personnel, and other district personnel. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES Thorough knowledge of current network systems such as HP and Cisco; current network Windows operating systems Apple OS; current network client OS platforms, Apple iOS; commonly implemented network services, such as email Gmail/G-Suite, internet browsing, file and print services, remote management, internet content filtering, network directory services (Active Directory); industry wide and applicable networking standards, internetworking data security tools and services including backup procedures, anti-virus, firewalls, VPN, NAT, proxy, protocol analysis, benchmarking, network mapping, and technical documentation. Knowledge of computer hardware and software specifications; available software and its applicability to specific computer systems; principles of computer operations, data base management and basic programming; general setup of scanners, printers, CD/DVD players, sound cards and related equipment. ABILITY TO - Plan and direct the work of others.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED Work is performed under the general direction of the Director of Information Technology. The employee is expected to exercise initiative and judgment in planning and organizing work, completing assignments and handling routine and unusual problems. Work is reviewed through conferences and reports for results achieved. The Director of Information Technology (or their designee) shall at least annually evaluate the Assistant Director's performance. SUPERVISION EXERCISED Immediate to general supervision is exercised over technical and office support personnel. CONDITIONS OF WORK Light physical activity in normal office environment. Requires ability to work on weekends including weeknights. Must be able to lift and carry 25 pounds. Must be able to bend, stoop, crawl, sit and stand for extended periods of time. This position will require (at times) working hours that may be outside the regular working day and times, because upgrades and maintenance will need to take place outside of regular working hours. This could include evenings and/or weekends, all as needed. SAFETY SENSITIVE: NO X ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING 2 Year Degree (AA/AS) or equivalent (60 Credits) Required. Bachelor Degree preferred, in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems or similar field and five (5) years of experience in computer operation or related field, including experience with Microsoft Windowsservers, network management in a large network environment, or any equivalent combination of experience, education and training, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the work. Information Technology industry certifications such as but not limited to Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) certification, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification, A+, Network+, and /or supervisory experience are highly desirable. LICENSES/CERTIFICATES Possession of (or ability to obtain) a valid Nevada driver's license. PHYSICAL AND MENTAL/INTELLECTUAL REQUIREMENTS The physical and mental/intellectual requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
