Principal Product Manager, Monetization

Role Description

As the Principal Product Manager, Monetization at Upstart, you will partner with Machine Learning to optimize systems and work with engineering and business teams to simplify and automate operations. You will design experiments to test ideas and be responsible for defining and hitting goals for every side of Upstart’s marketplace.

• Own the fee and pricing mechanisms that determine what Upstart charges across its loan products.
• Use novel competitive and customer insight to find fee and pricing improvements.
• Translate insights into sharper models and rules that make rates competitive, fair, transparent, and trusted at scale.
• Set the fee strategy and roadmap in partnership with ML, Risk, Legal/Compliance, Finance, and Engineering.
• Ensure customers pay fairer, more competitive fees while Upstart grows revenue and trust.

Qualifications

• 5-10 years experience in a marketplace product management role.
• Demonstrated success leading an engineering team to deliver critical initiatives in pricing, monetization, matching, routing, and incentives.
• Ability to build relationships and effectively collaborate with all levels of the organization.
• Ability to manage and influence through persuasion, negotiation, and consensus building.

Requirements

• Academic degree in Economics, Econometrics, Statistics, or Operations Research.
• Hands-on experience with pricing/revenue optimization: elasticity modeling, revenue management, brand impact feedback loop, etc.
• Experience operating in a regulated pricing environment (lending, insurance, financial services).
• Background in consumer lending, fintech, or capital markets products.
• Strong experiment design and analysis skills.
• Track record using data/AI tools to surface competitive or customer insight that changed a pricing or fee strategy.
