Aircraft Mechanic I (Survival) The Aircraft Mechanic I (Survival) supports highly sensitive US Air Force operational plans and safe air transportation for Cabinet Members, senior military leaders, and visiting foreign dignitaries. Responsibilities Inspects, evaluates, and repairs survival equipment for assigned aircraft and support equipment. Uses approved material to upholster, repair, or replace aircraft furnishings, headliners, interior side panels, and bulkheads. Installs carpeting, floor coverings, and vinyl on SAM aircraft. Repaints, manufactures, repacks and sews fabric, canvas, leather, rubber, and other synthetic materials in accordance with technical data. Inspects, repairs, and repacks emergency life rafts and life preservers. Modifies, designs, and fabricates canvas, leather, rubber, or synthetic fabric items to support aircraft maintenance. Operates all associated ground support equipment. Maintains oxygen masks, hand tools, power tools, special cutting tools, fasteners, and adhesives applicable to repair and maintenance of assigned aircraft. Evaluates, designs, and manufactures logistics improvement projects. Researches technical data for maintenance and repair of assigned aircraft and associated equipment. Uses maintenance drawings and blueprints to accomplish repairs on assigned equipment. Performs on‑equipment evaluations of aircraft interior components to determine serviceability or repairability. Coordinates maintenance efforts with Production Supervisors and the Maintenance Operation Coordination Center. Documents discrepancies in applicable forms and inputs data in the Maintenance Information System. Ensures compliance with safety, housekeeping, tool control, and FOD prevention programs. Works required shifts: day, swing, night, and/or weekend. May be tasked to perform additional work center duties with provided training. Performs other duties related to the occupational field, including temporary duty and travel. Maintains all training requirements. Minimum Requirements A High School Diploma or GED. Working knowledge of applicable technical publications and repair procedures for survival equipment. Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English. Ability to read and interpret technical data. Occasional lifting of objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Proficiency in industrial sewing techniques. Can obtain and maintain a secret security clearance (US citizenship required). Can obtain and maintain a flight‑line driver’s license. Preferred Requirements Working knowledge of corrosion control techniques and base, federal, and company procedures for handling and disposal of hazardous waste materials. Ability to pass a Pulmonary Fit Test and wear a breathable oxygen mask during certain maintenance operations.
