Job Description Summary Under general supervision, the Certified Surgical Tech II follows established procedural guides in the preparation of sterile supplies and equipment used in surgical procedures, performs appropriate room duties involved with direct patient care, and functions autonomously as a member of the operating room team. The role demonstrates knowledge, skills, and behaviors consistent with competent practice. Entity Medical University Hospital Authority (MUHA) Worker Type Employee Responsibilities Prepare sterile supplies and equipment according to procedural guides. Assist with room duties during surgical procedures, including direct patient care. Operate autonomously as part of the operating room team. Support providers and nurses with vaginal deliveries, supply restocking, instrument flow, front desk customer service and engagement. Collaborate with peers to assess patient and surgeon needs during procedures. Qualifications Certified Surgical Technologist credential administered by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (formerly LCC-ST). Alternative: Continuous employment as a Surgical Technologist in South Carolina prior to January 1, 2008. New graduates must obtain certification within 90 days of graduation. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 2 weeks of hire and must be maintained thereafter. At least one year of work experience as a Certified Surgical Tech. High School Diploma and graduation from an accredited surgical technology program or a military program. Physical Requirements Ability to perform job functions while standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs, working indoors, and at elevated areas. Must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs unassisted, lift/lower objects 50 lbs from floor to 36 inches, lift objects from 36″ to overhead 25 lbs, and exert up to 50 lbs force. Requires good vision, hearing, fine‑motor skills, and ability to work in a latex‑safe environment. Must handle stressful situations and work rotating shifts, overtime, and respirator use if required. Additional Job Description Graduation from an accredited surgical technology program and a minimum of one year experience as a Certified Surgical Technologist. Level II practitioners demonstrate higher level critical thinking and problem solving, meeting Level I criteria. Current AHA BLS or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers is required.
